State law requires a license plate and unfortunately, I didn't think to check before buying... there is no place to mount the plate. Has anyone solved this for themselves or have any ideas?

Not sure how much room you have, but you might be able to mount it to the bull bar next to the winch. I've also seen plates mounted on the front of the bumper for road use and then removed when needing to use the winch.

Here is a solution for the roller fairlead: Rugged Ridge 11238.05 Black License Plate Mounting Bracket for Roller Fairlead: Automotive

Here is a solution for the hawse fairlead:

Warrior Part 2360 - Hawse License Plate Mount by Warrior Products

I haven't run a front plate on my vehicles for years. Cops will only pull you over for it if they are really bored or looking for a reason to pull you over. I keep it under my front seat and when they try to write the ticket, I attach it to my light bar with zip ties and get the fix it ticket signed off.

Thanks guys. I should have checked back sooner -- I was already hot on the fairlead mounting trail.

I also found this one:

A few people have suggested they really like that one but the 1997 website causes me to have some reliability concerns. Anyway, I have a solution now to implement.

As for cops, someone up here in Santa Rosa claims that having no front tag is cause for a full cavity search. I'm thinking I might just play it safe.

Thanks for the quick responses.

I have seen people use wire loom clamps to mount the license plate. Will cost maybe 2 bucks and can be purchased at most any automotive store.

Just a fix it ticket. My wifes BMW did not come with one either, she got pulled over once in 4 years. We just put it on with zip ties, got it signed off at the police station and went on our way.

This is what I use, but it looks like yours doesn't have those two rollers in the front of the winch?

Zip ties to the top bar above the winch, or some self taping screws...
What have we got?

donbadabon -- I'm looking at solutions for attaching it to the fairlead like you've done but I don't have a roller. It looks like one of the links Deuce provided above is my best option.

91badass -- Oh the irony as I sit and say to myself that compliance is easier while wearing a RATM t-shirt.
