OK, here we go. One jeep (2014 JKUR) basically stock. 3 women... my wife, a 13 year old and a 10 year old. The mission. Drive from So Cal to Monument Valley Utah, then to hike the canyons of Paige Arizona, then to Sedona for some off roading and Thanksgiving Dinner (Broken Arrow and Soldiers Pass). We have no family there but we decided to throw caution to the wind and road trip it for Thanksgiving. We are planning on eating whatever, where ever we are.
The 13 y/o doesn't want to go and figures she can "hike" in our backyard (we live in track housing). Typical teenager. The 10 year old is stoked, and my wife is down for anything (men keep your minds out of the gutter).
My plan is to upload pics as I go. Not really any hardcore off roading. But the Broken Arrow trail is amazing (i did it before in a rented jeep). I am uploading from my phone so bear with me.
Hope everyone enjoys. You will be part of a great vacation or a nightmare of teenage hormones !!!!!
YEAH!!!
Very cool idea!
We are going to do the "Road", the first week of December, so before the Holiday mess.
It is going to colder than a penquins toes out there!!
If you have time in Paige you should see about hiking out to The Wave. Go to the BLM website for AZ and on that page you can get more details. I'll tell you that it's a hell of a hike tho! Grand Staircase / Escalante Natl Mnt visitors center, but you need to check in the day before you want to hike if you want a lottery pass. Only 20 hiking passes a day are issued, and 10 of those are online only.
Man that is beautiful. I am going to be following this. I am doing a 2 week run to texas on the first in the jeep so this will be very informative. How is the gas milage going and the gas should be cheaper out of state I think.
Yea gas was like 2.89. Gunner I drove between 70 and 80 mph. The trip was 646 miles and I averaged 18.5 mph. No lift just loaded down with people and luggage.
As for the windshield I was going to hit and auto store and see if they sale anything that will prevent it from spider webing. It's small now and I don't want it to grow.
Those folks at (the national chain) SafeLite used to advertise their product that would make a small crack disappear and be stronger than the rest of the windshield. Plus "most" insurance glass coverage will pay the cost of their service.
Keep on keeping on. There are a lot of people sharing in your adventure. Stay safe, and make good memories.
