Local Litter Bugs

I went for a ride up Cleghorn last Sunday with my brother and his wife who had never been Jeeping. It was cold, windy and a bit rainy up high but we did every technical trail, sometimes both ways and they loved it. I observed a group of Jeepers who were sitting along the trail at a stop and I watched as two men from separate Jeeps drank their water bottles and both proceeded to throw the empty bottles right over the side of the hill. They did not even seem to care if I was watching them either. Being part of an outdoor enthusiast group I would not think anyone would do this type of thing and it was pretty disgusting to me. I wanted to go over to them and say something but we all felt it better to not initiate anything. I guess once a pig always a pig as they say.

Thats a shame...its people like this that give other jeepers a bad name, and get places shut down. How hard would it have been to toss it in the back of the jeep...

Yeah, when I am up there I like to pick up trash that others leave behind, because Cleghorn is one of those trails they could so easily decide to just shut down. They only need a reason.

Being the mean mom that I am, my usual reaction is to march over and pick up the offending items while glaring at the offending person while LOUDLY exclaiming "NICE" Usually, it makes the offender feel like the d bag that they are.....

Unfortunately I have seen a lot of that on the trail, and around long beach/ lakewood all I see is people throwing their trash out the window It enrages me.

On a lighter note how are you guys doing? And are you going to the next meet and greet in Big Bear?

This kind of thing disgusts me too. Unfortunately there are a bunch of inconsiderate idiots out there and this happens all to frequently.

A couple of months ago I did a campground cleanup gig with the jk-forum guys, and there were tons of smashed beer bottles all over. It took maybe five minutes per bottle to pick up all the little pieces of broken glass, when the lazy a-hole could have taken just five seconds to put it in a trash bag instead. We filled up about 14 large trash bags that day.

A couple of years ago I was backpacking and passed a group of guys at a campsite. As I was talking with them, I noticed a coors lite box at their site (they backpacked that thing into camp), and as I proceeded to cross the stream just beyond their campsite, I saw about a dozen crushed coors lite cans in the stream. Pigs! I so wanted to go back and say something, but in the backwoods is no place for a lone hiker to stir up trouble with a bunch of morons.

I am thinking back to the Meet n Greet we did in March in Anza Borrego. We had several Jeeps/tents/bbqs and people having a great time in a very large area. I was one of the last to leave and when all was said and done, everyone did a great job of picking up after themselves. Could not even tell anyone was there besides a few tire tracks. When I see trash on the trails it almost makes me sick. I am glad that for the most part, we are a responsible group.

From another site I visit, no he was not wearing his seatbelt. Neither was the passanger. Apparently, since the Bronco did not come with seat belts from the factory, they did not feel that it was necessary to have them installed.
