If you guys are not going to hit the trail until 11:00 or so, I may be interested in driving up for the day as long as my son does not have any sports activities. I will see how things go and let you know if I can join.

Brrrr.. It sounds cold on Friday... I wouldn't be able to get up there until late, so I think I'll just come up Saturday morning and bring a tent.

Well, at least we won't have to worry about the ice in our coolers melting away! Looks like I'll have to pack up some extra blankets along with the sleeping bag too. It'll still be a blast.

I just put our food in the snow when I go snow camping, but for some reason someone here felt the need to use a cooler.

Dude, those pictures look freaking nuts. Once I buy myself a St. Bernard with a barrel of whiskey around it's neck to follow me around everywhere, I'm in!

Seriously though, that does look like a lot of fun. I need to try that out sometime.

Wow, I love camping, but that seems a bit much for me. Very pretty though.

The snow camping I've done isn't terribly extreme as far as alpine excursions go. The worst winter conditions I've camped in was 12 degrees at night, 40 mph wind gusts and snow falling all day and all night.

Haha, can't build a fire on top of snow. We usually just hit the sack early because once the sun goes down it starts getting really cold and time to put on all the layers you got and hunker down inside a good sleeping bag on top of a good insulating foam ground pad.

Since Thanksgiving is next week and I am planning on fun stuff then I am going to pass on this event as I need some time around home to prepare. I may be interested in something close by to me, like Cleghorn, for a couple of hours but I can not be gone for the whole day. Next time.

Hey guinea pigs!

So I just picked up a cast iron dutch oven, and I thought I'd try it out on you guys this weekend. I'll be whipping up some beef stew Saturday night, boy scout camp-out style.

I was hoping to initiate this dutch oven on the Mojave Road this weekend and cook dinner much like the way the pioneers did when they traveled that route. Sigh....

My dutch oven can be used over a fire, the way it was done in the old days, but I'll be using bbq coals and a standalone apparatus, so I don't have to consume valuable grill space or the fire pit.

I've been looking at getting one of those dutch ovens for a while now. They look really cool. They can pretty much be used anywhere and I like how you can just throw it in the fire or cover it with coals... they look like the ultimate camping cooker. I'm excited to see how it works out.

The only things I ever cooked in them is beef stew and cobbler, but you can apparently cook just about anything in them. Now that I've got one of my own, I think I'll be experimenting with some other recipes in my back yard.

There are a few companies that make them, but Lodge seems to be the most reputable. They've been making them for like 120 years or something.

Okay I got my rock rails so I am in. Don't think my gf and I will be camping since all my gear is in the the back of the maze that use to be the garage, and I wont have time to get my supplies together. Seems like I will be missing out though, especially on that dutch oven I've always wanted to try one. Can anyone lead me to a thread on how to disconnect a stock JKU? Cant find it in the owners manual.

Since I am not a fan of denny's at all, I will be getting there about 11 when you guys should be finishing up breakfast. I am bringing my gf and maybe a buddy. By the way... Is it hard to get from the end of the trail back to the 5?

If you are talking about disconnecting the sway bar, I don't believe you have that option in a stock rig, unless it's a Rubicon. You would have to have those installed. If you have a Rubicon, you just push the button, when you are going less than 18 mph.

Too bad you aren't going to camp it with us. It's always a good time.

I'll show you how to disconnect the sway bars at the trail head. It's easy, you just have to get down in the dirt for a minute and all you need is an 18mm socket, wrench and zip ties. I'll have all of that for you if you forget to bring any of it.

Getting back to the 5 from Dutchman campground isn't that hard. It takes a while, but you end up coming out through Hungry Valley OHV right at the Smokey Bear Rd. on/off ramp by Pyrmid Lake.

its eady to disconnect for front sway bar, don't worry we will show you.

the 5 is about 30 40 minute drive down the mountain on a fire road, i have a map so i can show you, unless you have gps.

just drag your camping gear out, or make the g/f do it haha but hope you can join us for camping our shindigs are always a great time!

there is another breakfast place down the street, im not a fan of dennys either, but the lady at the other place gets a tad excited when you can't place your order right, kinda like the soup nazi from seinfeld.

if you guys want to change the breakfast place it doesn't matter to me. i think there is also another place across the street at dennys.
