Miller Jeep Trail and camping Saturday 10/20 - Sunday 10/21

Note: Dates for this run were initially 10/6-10/7, then on 9/4 were changed to 10/20-10/21.

Miller Jeep Trail is rated difficult, but is really moderate for a Jeep. Newbies and stockers are welcome, although if your Jeep is at stock height, I recommend that you have rock rails. A CB radio is also recommended. If you're a newbie, please let us know so we can make sure you get the instruction and attention you need.

Please NO DRINKING ALCOHOL ON THE TRAIL! Save it until we get to camp.

The general plan is:

Saturday 10/20/2012

We'll be on CB channel 12.

Pack a lunch to eat on the trail.

Eat breakfast and gas up before meeting up at the Flying J. There's a gas station right there at the Flying J, as well as a few other gas stations right in that area after getting off the freeway.

10:00am Meet at the Flying J in Lebec
42810 Frazier Mountain Rd
Lebec, CA 93243
661-248-2505

From the Flying J, we'll head out to the trailhead turnoff
N34 45.578 W119 02.987

Air down and disconnect at the Staging area, then hit the trail
N34 44.059 W119 02.364

Break for lunch along the trail at Sunset Camp
N34 41.998 W119 00.023

At the end of the trail is Dutchman Camp, where we'll setup camp, eat, drink, and be merry.
N34 40.557 W118 58.696

Depending on the group size and capabilities, the trail run will take around 4-5 hours including the lunch break. Sunset is at 6:12pm, so the plan is to be at camp by around 4pm, leaving some time to deal with any unplanned problems/delays on the trail.

Sunday, we'll have breakfast then pack up camp and head down the service roads to Hungry Valley, where you can choose to hang around and play some more, or continue on out, air up by the freeway onramp, and head home.

If you're camping overnight, please bring a bundle of firewood. Vehicles staying overnight will also need an Adventure Pass, which you can acquire ahead of time at any major sporting goods store, or pick one up at the Ranger Station on the way to the trailhead. A campfire permit is also required, but only one per group is needed, and already I have one, and I think BeantownR6 does too. Also, there's no picnic table at the campsite, so if a few people can bring a table, that will help for the potluck. I'll bring one table.

Post up if you'd like to join us, and let us know whether or not you'll be camping overnight, and if you would like to bring something for the Saturday potluck dinner.

Going:
1. yomondo (camping)
2. cashcow1608 (camping)
3. NTRLVR (day run)
4. Cons_Table (camping)
5. BeantownR6 (camping)

2. JRickW (day run)
3. JeepHerz (day run)

cashcow1608 - chips and salsa and a bottle of honey, small table
Cons_Table - something sweet, table

Yomondo- Once again, we'll miss out wheelin' on the same run. It's the same weekend as the Avocado Festival. I never miss it! We hop on the train for a beach side 15 minute ride to Carpinteria. 5-6 live bands, tons of food; anything avocado, good beer and steps from the beach.

Have a good run! Yellow Jacket's still pretty clear if you decide to hit that one up while you're out there.

One of these days we'll get the stars aligned. Have fun with your avocados!

well this certainly is a bummer. my g/f wanted to go to buckaneers day at two harbors on catalina island this same weekend (dress up like pirates and get drunk and camp for 2 nights). we talked about going but I figured since all the campsite were all booked up we would not be going. i forgot about it and didn't realize it was the same weekend and she has been checking non-stop and reserved a campsite somebody had cancelled (go figure!)

so i have to bail on this run, unless you guys want to pick another weekend?

Well I posted it up for the weekend of 10/6-10/7 because it's the one you picked from the list of weekends I said I was available, but the weekend of 10/20-10/21 does work better for me.

If 10/20-10/21 works for everyone who said they're going, I'm in favor of switching to that weekend. If we don't unanimously agree to switch, we'll stick with the initially posted dates. What do y'all say?

We just need to hear back from NTRLVR regarding switching the dates to 10/20-10/21. I PM'd him, but haven't heard back yet. Unfortunately he may be away on a road trip that I heard him talking about, so it's possible we may not hear back from him for a week or so. Stay tuned.

*** Date Change ***

Okay guys, the dates for this run are officially changed to 10/20-10/21. I'll update the first post and request a mod/admin to change the thread title. Thank you all for your responses and flexibility.

Cons_Table and BeantownR6, I will add you to the list.

Welcome to the forum. I added you to the list for a day run only.

I don't know if you're familiar with Miller Jeep Trail and the service roads back out through Hungry Valley, but just so you know, those who will be doing only a day run will part ways with those of us who are camping at the top of the mountain where Miller Jeep Trail ends. That's where Dutchman Camp is, where we'll be setting up camp. From there the day runners will take the easy service roads down to Hungry Valley then out to the I-5 freeway. Directions are pretty simple so you won't likely get lost, but it does take about an hour from Dutchman Camp before you get all the way out to the freeway.
