I've been doing a lot of differential and axle work lately, it's fun stuff, but it's also tricky. If you don't get it right you're gonna have a bad time.

My mechanic is known as the best in town. God willing, I will be driving JoanZie tomorrow. I'm more upset at the thought of not being able to drive than the cost of fixing her!

I drive her hard..live at Calico almost year round...wear and tear over the years. $hit happens..fix it and move on right? Can't be a Whiney wheeler.

Just swap an 8.8 in there with 4.56 and a locker and don't look back. Factory 31 spline axles and disc brakes. You can't go wrong. It will laugh at 33s even without chromoly axleshafts. Artec industries makes a nice swap kit for them. Its a lot beefier than a Dana 44

Sooner or later...

OMG my stress level is through the roof right now. I hate when she's sick.

I just want to get there.

I'm packin' up my gear in my buddy's FJ tonight...so whether I'm driving or not tomorrow, I'll be ready to roll right after work. So if all goes well, I should be on time....if my mechanic is done with her..

I will keep you all updated

I was a big fan of the ford 8.8 for the longest time, but I've swung over to the dana44 side. Sure the ford 8.8 is a stronger axle, but its pumpkin is also a lot larger causing unwanted hang ups. Both are definitely great axles, it's just a matter of do you want to sacrifice clearance on your pumpkin, or do you want a sturdier axle? To me more clearance negates some of the need for a stronger axle, not to mention chromoly 44s are still very strong. That's just my .02 though.

Keep the P.M.A up! Good things come to those who wait! I've worked 14 hours this week and took the rest of work off to get this damn trailer ready and the jeep ready for this weekend... 16 hour days. I feel your pain! Still not done but in the end, every trip is worth it!

I probably won't get up there till 7:30ish tomorrow. I plan on camping Fri-Sat night. I never been there but have a map of the area. Since ill be flying solo for this run My dad is gonna join me Sat morning. This will be his first Jeep adventure. I have to run down to Flying J or somewhere he can leave his car to get him Sat morning before the run.

FJ Lorie. Just the sound of it tastes funny. Filthy Dirty FJ Girl. Nope, that doesn't work any better. Almost makes me glad I'll miss it. Almost. And for the love of god, if she shows up in an FJ, take tons of pics. For future posterity of course. Or extortion. Lol.
