Have fun and be safe. Please report back on trail conditions. In particular, I'm interested in hearing how muddy Soda Lake is, and how deep the two water crossings are. Thanks. Sorry you won't be able to join us next month too.

I was waiting for someone to bust out a "coming out of the closet" crack.

Anybody's welcome.

This is an easy trail. Even a tacoma can make it. But if he has any problems, he just might get served on youtube like this guy.

What type of requirements would you recommend for this trip? Usually how deep are those water crossings? Seems like an awesome trip

Any Wrangler should be fine as long as it has front and rear tow points. Cashcow is there right now. Hopefully he'll report back on how deep the water crossing is. Or I could always call the ranger and ask, but I'd trust cashcow's first-hand report more.

Perfectly well. The Mojave Road is suitable for nearly any 4x4 SUV, your stock Jeep Wrangler will have no problem with it. About the only thing I can suggest is something stronger/beefier/more aggressive than street tires.

Just got back from Mojave Road trip. Had a great time. Soda lake was dry and passable and the water crossings were not even up to my hubs. No problems at all but alot of deep sand in Mojave river wash towards end of trip. Randy made in his stock LJ without airing down but had overheating problems in the soft sand.

Thanks for the trail report. I heard someone saying several months back that the water crossing was almost nothing, and apparently it still is. Too bad. That was a fun part of the trail last year when it was nearly 2-1/2 feet deep.

Maybe we will get some rain before your trip to make it more interesting. The water was probably only about a foot deep. I looked for you in the sign in book at the mailbox but they put a new book there in sept of this year. Had a great time though. Wish I could go again with you guys.

the last tacoma that did that trail with fourwheeler got totaled for a bent frame lol. course we were going slightly faster then the average group. if ANYONE is on the fence GOOOOO its an awesome area and trip. you can do the whole thing in 2wd and theres SOOO much to see.

There was a Honda Ridgeline out there last weekend who couldnt make it. He hit a rock, bent a tie rod and had to go home. There were several full size pickup trucks out there and they had no problems though.

I am still a maybe, rumor has it my wife's unit may be let go next week as Anthem sends more jobs to the Philippines. Who know's, may be good for her to get out just to relax as being in the not knowing what's next group has been stressful the last few months as other got axed.

I hope you two can make it out, but either way I wish you guys the best with your wife's work situation. I've been laid off a couple times and it's certainly no fun. And for about a year and half my current employer was laying off batches of people every couple of months. Nobody felt safe. Anyway I feel for ya, and I hope everything works out.

One month away! Can't wait!

I just booked my room at the Avi. I was waiting to see if the price will come back down to $20 (where it was when I first posted this thread), but it hasn't budged. $27 ($30.11 including tax) is still a fantastic price for a decent room.

I'm thinking I'll leave work around 1:00pm and head out straight from there, probably grab a late lunch somewhere around Victorville or Barstow.
