THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELED.
Sorry but due to damages to my Jeep, from an accident a few days ago, that I'm not able to fix in time, I'm unable to make this run.
Mojave Road, Laughlin to Barstow, Friday 11/18/11 through Sunday 11/20/11. This is the weekend before Thanksgiving.
This is an easy run through the Mojave National Preserve, with lots of stops along the way to visit historical sites, plus a side trip to Kelso Depot and Kelso Dunes. Read up on some of the history of this trail right here
, or pick up a copy of the Mojave Road Guide
for more details and route guidance. Most of the trail can be done in 2WD, but there are a couple of muddy or sandy spots where one could potentially get stuck, so I would like for everyone going on this run to have both front and rear tow points
. A CB radio
is also highly recommended.
The 2 nights of camping will be at primitive campsites. There will be no toilets, water or any services of any kind. I have a privacy tent and one of those portable toilets that use those swag bags. I'll bring it along, and anyone who promises to thoroughly
clean up after themselves is welcome to use it. (Put yourself in my position. I don't want to clean up other people's toilet mess!)

What to bring
(in addition to your usual offroading/camping gear):
- 5-10 gallons of extra gasoline
(JK's will barely make it with an extra 5 gallons, TJ's and YJ's may need more)
- Extra food, water and anything your Jeep might need (at times we'll be many miles away from any services or supplies)
- Warm overnight gear (the nights will probably be in the low 40's, possibly even colder)
- Provisions for 2 nights of primitive camping.
- 1-2 bundles of firewood
- A few bucks to help cover the $50 cost of the required Special Use Permit
if our group is, or looks like it might be at least 7 vehicles or 15 people.
- A penny to drop in the "Penny Can" for good luck.
- Flashlight handy for walking through the Lava Tube on Day 2.

If any of you who are going want to download the GPS track so that I'm not the only one who knows where we're going, here are the ones I made from last year.
This was our general planned route.
This was our actual route.
And this is a combination of both.
This is the track that I have loaded to my GPS devices to help guide us through this trip.
Here are a few teaser pics from last year...
Mojave Mail Box
Travelers Monument at Soda Lake. Pick up a rock at the beginning of your travel, and deposit it here to bring your group good fortune in your travels. Read the inscription on the plaque in the center of the monument, but keep it a secret.
