next september i have to work for about a week in Santa Monica. Two years ago I was there with a whole film crew and we all were in the Fairmont Hotel at Wilshire Blvd.
But now I have to pay the hotel from my own money and the Fairmont is much to expensive for me.

Do you know a good andn not so expensive hotel/motel near the pier?

I know this won't be much help to you, but not expensive & near the pier ? I am thinking everything near the pier will be expensive.
Unless someone lives near there or knows the area well, I think and online search for hotels/motels in Santa Monica will give you results.

a friend told me that his brother was in the www.thecadillachotel.com in venice last year.
it costs about 100$ a night incl. breakfast and it´s directly at the beach.
that would be ok for me.
i´ll ask my client in santa monica if this hoitel is ok. perhaps he can make some pics for me.
after work i will enjoy the beach. hope it´s warm enough there in the first week of september.

It's usually hot during the first weeks of September, the weather should be good for the beach.
