NEW! First time purchasing used Wrangler..

Hey everyone! Quick summary.. From Hacienda Hts CA, i roadrace motorcycles, but am now changing my hauling vehicle from truck+trailer to Cargo Van, and now plan on selling my Tacoma Pre-runner (2wd) for something cheaper and fun. An old racing friend was the one who recommended me looking into this forum for more info on the YJ's or TJ's and preferably under 10k.

Ive found a couple on craigslist but they seem a bit overpriced. It will be used for light offroading, camping, joining on group events etc. Would prefer an inline 4 for the gas mileage.. but if a good priced v6 pops up, i wouldn't mind.

1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ - $8000 (Riverside-CA)
1999 Jeep Wrangler Very Clean - $10900 (Reseda)

Is there problems i should look out for besides Death wobble and rust?

Im excited to get started on a new project and looking forward to lots of Spring/summer fun!

Forgot to mention, if there are any members who are interested in selling, Let me know! im sure i can trust you guys a bit better than the people off craigslist..

DO NOT GET A FOUR CYLINDER FOR BETTER GAS MILEAGE.

Won't happen. Jeeps pull 16-18 mpg regardless of engine. I've never heard a 6 owner say he wished he had a 4 but I cant think of ANY 4 owner that did not tell me he wished he had a six.

I'm right over the hill from you in Whittier. If you want to meet for a cup of coffee we can chat jeeps in person.

Welcome to the forum.

Start with a 6 to begin with, you won't be sorry once you have it and start using it. There are some small dealers that do get jeeps in and the are within your budget. Keep looking and don't get impatient. Th right one for you will turn up.
Welcome to the foum. This is a great place for tech help, run info and a great group of people that are on here.

That's pretty pricey for a yj.....
I'd look for a 97+ semi built TJ in that range the economy warrants some really good deals and forget about a 4cyl.....go 6

I thought the TJ was pricey too. Bought my 2000 TJ with 117K miles for $6500. Came with 31's.

This is an acquaintance from another club I know and he is on the up and up. It is a 4 banger but man is it built. Just thought I would post for you look at. Here is his post on their forums.

Club Members,

Hope you guys are all well, this is Robert Tapia. I wanted you guys to know that I am currently selling my Jeep. Im NOT getting out of the club, im looking to Upgrade my rig to a JK 4 door rubicon. For some of you that I have been wheelin with for past year know my jeep has been able to do anything all these Rubicons have been able to do even if it is a 4 banger. I have taken real good care of it. I only use it to go have fun and goes back in the garage. If anyone know someone that is intereted here is a link to the ad I have on craigslist, and have them call me. Ill give a special price if its some the club knows. Here is the link….

Mine is a 4 banger as well. I have been crawling my Jeep for years; more often than not, leading the way too. Big Bear, Calico, JV..she goes everywhere. Looking back on it, knowing what I know now, I would have went with a Rubicon. But if you go with a 2.5L, you can still do everything the guys with a 4.0L do.

Specs on my Jeep:

2.5 L 5 speed / 4.56 Gears, 33x12.50 MTR's, Cragar Soft 8's, 3" Black Diamond Suspension Lift, 1" JKS BL, Savvy GTS, Currie Correctlync Steering Kit, Currie Adjustable Trackbar, Currie Lower Control Arm Skids, Rear CV Driveshaft, Advance Adaptor SYE, RE Control Arms, 30 Spline G2 HD Cromoly Rear Axles, RockHard Roll Cage, ARB Lockers, Smitty XRC bumpers front and rear, XRC8 Winch, Currie Antirock Swaybar, Xenon Sport Flares, XRC Armor Corner Guards, Skid Row Skid Plate, Steering Box Skid, Riddler Diff Covers, Rock Hard Sliders, Tummy Skid, Pro Comp Trail Lights, KC Trail Lites, CB.

Getting ready to drop a 4.1 transfer case in her next. And mine's not for sale. Probably be buried in mine.

Good luck with your shopping!

Lorie

Typical saleman.... "lightly per-owned"

But for real, Robs a good dude, he won't do you wrong. He's at moss dodge and jeep in riverside. Let him help you find what you need with all the proper warranty and inspections instead of buying blind not knowing what your getting. Good luck and welcome to the jeep world

Just FYI the TJs do not have a V-6, they have a straight six. The new JKs all have V-6s.

Also, if you are going to wheel it, you should probably look for one with a Dana 44 rear axle. That is easier to find in 03 and newer but they might be out of your price range.

It says OBO, so you might want to look at it and find out what he will take for it. Also find out how long it's been for sale.

I sold my 02 TJ last year with winch, duratracs, 2" lift, 78,000 miles, immaculate condition, for 9,700. I was asking 10,000 and it went to a good home so I dropped it.

It won't hurt to go look and talk to the owner, good luck

The OP in this thread has a TJ for sale. A Marine that just had his 3rd child and bought a JKU and wants to sell his TJ. Think it was their DD, but he didn't wheel it. I know cuz I just took him on his first run off road in his JKU Sunday. Tell him Chuck sent you.

My neighbor's kid, who is actively looking too, sent me this same CL add. He contacted the guy. I'll try to find out if he's looked at it yet.
