New jeeper/offroader event

There's a batch of new members here with new jeeps who have never been off road.

Any interest among that group for an off road 101 run?

A one day trip in the desert. No rock crawling just roads and trails for you to learn about your jeep on and pick up some basic off roading skills?

Trip difficulty level will be aimed at new drivers in unmodified jeeps.

Thoughts?

Last Chance Canyon (LCC) is a nice training/beginner trail with a few small rocks to crawl and not too boring..any stock jeep can make it, lockers not required.

It'll be near Lucerne Valley. Once I sort my work schedule I'll post a date.

First part will be hard pack dirt road.
Second part loose dirt/sand/small rock road with some astounding views.
Last leg is sandy trail where wheel placement will be important.

Stock jeeps with stock tires can make the trip and vehicle recovery will be simple and easy should it be needed.

Depending on the date, I would be very interested. Especially since it could be a time to teach the wife to drive off-road

Hey we had a blast with you last time. I think I have some newbies who would love this kind of trip. Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy the scenery and the trail. Let me know and I am pretty sure I am up for it. Could a non jeep go too. He did Miller so I think this would be easy for him.

Hey Gunner,

This will really be aimed at the jeeper who has not been off road yet. It's more about learning what the driver should do and what your jeep will do than anything.

Some spoken instruction and practical application. A one day starter course.

Do you want to be the tail end?

Depending on when and where I can help as well. Nothing better than seeing the look of shock and awe on their faces as they discover what these vehicles can do.

Last Chance Cyn looks like the perfect intro to gettin dirty!!

Can start at EP-15, and come south into the rougher stuff gradually. Or go right into the thick of things at the beginning!!

Not a bad place to cut your teeth. Could bring them in through Charlie Rd, over by 395 which will take us through the Narrows (Goler Gulch) and I know a way over to Holland Camp that takes us through some river beds. Then fire roads over to Colorado Camp, Burro Schmidt, Bickle Camp, Ponderosa Valley to look at the cabins, Holly Cleanser Mines and then over to the Dutch Cleanser mine. This will allow people to get the feel for their Jeeps off pavement before heading down Last Chance to do some off roading.

Some items I recommend people acquire before going (shown for illustration purposes only):

Tire deflator (Currie Enterprises CE-9029E - Currie EZ-Tire Deflator - Quadratec)

Air compressor (Viair 40043 - VIAIR 400P Portable Air Compressor - Quadratec) the smaller the unit you get, the longer you will be waiting to air up.

If you get them, please take time to become familiar with how to use your deflator and air pump prior to the run. First time using things should not be in the field.

For the NON-Rubicon owners, I highly recommend to become familiar with how to disconnect your front sway bar. Disconnecting will allow greater flexibility of your front end and provide a more comfortable ride off road. Would do this a couple of times prior to the run to be familiar with the process and busting these nuts/bolts loose for the first time can be a bear. Zip ties can be used to tie up the loose ends. Again, this is an option and recommendation not a necessity.

2 of the jeeps I would have coming are first timers with Hemi Grand Cherokees. They are trail jeeps not rock jeeps. I thought it was going to be an easy trail run.

Rocks are small, there are two lines threw the canyon.

No worries on these trails Gunner. We have taken stock sports through these trails with no protection of any kind and suffered no body damage. They will be fine.

Sorry guys, it will be a much easier trail than Last Chance.

It'll be a trail ride. Lots of wheel time over different types of terrain. Suitable for stock jeeps on stock tires.

Gunner, The grand Cherokee's will do fine if on decent tires.
