Nightmare Gulch Closing its doors to vehicles for good

I just heard that Nightmare Gulch is going to be closed. I really hope this isn't true but I thought I would pass this on. Here is an email received:

The closure of Nightmare Gulch to vehicles is a permanent closure. It is still open to hiking and equestrian use. The reasons for the closure are cited as protection of sensitive biological and geological resources as well as public safety due to the deterioration of the vehicle route due to a recent flash flood.

We are sorry for the inconvenience but it just cannot be helped.

Sincerely,

Norm Lee

That really sucks. Especially since I haven't run that trail.

Check out the sticky post in this forum. That was a miss-post by BLM and it is a temporary closure. CORVA and others are in contact with BLM to see about possible assisting with opening the canyon.

I'm sure it will be reopened again soon....but....this is why it is SO important to support events that are held to raise moneys for the fight to keep are lands open...
If we don't YOU will find yourself saying ..." I wish I had ran that trail when I had a chance" a lot more.....we need everyone's support....

I originally got that email about Nightmare Gulch but then received an update to it. It's not a permanent closure, but only temporary to fix the trail.

Just got a new update about Nightmare Gulch...

Jennifer:

I was just informed that the Nightmare Gulch closing is just temporary, not permanent. Evidently they are studying ways to repair the route.

Just for clarification this trail used to be managed by the BLM but in a land swap agreement it now lies with in the Redrock State Park. The State is responsible for the reopening of this trail not the BLM.

Our club is trying to be a part of the process so they don't make a decision from Sacramento without seeing the problem first hand. We will do whatever we can to help in this endevor.

It will help if people will just be patient and let the process take it's course without negative comments towards either the BLM or the State Park Service. Now we wait.

You bet Dave, I will pass along any info as I learn it. So did you make it to PVD this year? Had a great time with my new Jeep.

Jeff, glad your enjoying your new Jeep. No PVD this year, it's on the calendar for next year. We need to get out this winter. Dave
