1. How far is the trailhead from where we meet in Paradise?

its about a 35 min-40min drive from paradise

2. Do we end up back where we start after wheel'n or somewhere else?

End where we start one way in one out. I hear there is anther but takes you towards quincy.

3. Are there toilets up there?

Philbrook lake has toilets didnt see any others on the trail

4. How long do we plan to be on the trail?

that depends. with a group it could take a few hours would like to keep it at 4 to 5 max for those who want to drive home the same day.

My wife will be with me, so we are thinking about staying at one of the resort/casinos in Oroville.

If we start running the trails by noon. i figure we can finish by 4-5 pm a little later if some want to watch others on the hard tails. anyone who wants to camp we should stop by one of the lakes on the way up and drop our stuff off. keep your food in the jeep though, 2 camps had bears take theirs when they were out of camp.

no problem, thats what i'm here for.

Noticed a few posts about bringing extra fuel. after filling up in oroville i was able to make it back to sac after tons of driving up there, but i always make it a point to have at least 5gal extra with me because you never know what kind of hold ups you will run into out on the trail.

Also do most of you have CB's? just thought i asked since it makes communication up there much easier. i also have an extra hand held cb radio if anyone needs the use of one for the afternoon.

Don't have a CB, but do have FRS radios. They have worked ok on past runs, but range is limited vs CB.

Droze, a while back you pictured a book with a map of the trails. What book might that be?

I have always heard the tale of the chico jeeper, until recently i myself always thought it was a myth.

the book was the basic guide to northern california back roads. really not full of a great deal of info but a decent map and description of the area

This may have been mentioned, but I missed it, are we going in at the north entrance or south entrance?

put me down as a maybe. I'm still out of the country, but have been itching for some wheeling. Two months without my jeep is torture. I'll be back in the state Augest 1st, I should know around then if I can go or not. I'm sure the jeep will need some work after sitting for so long.

Ok stupid question time. Should I remove my factory (Sahara style) sidesteps and/or get rock sliders for this? After hearing about the Table Rock spot and need to stack rocks and such to get over it, I'm wondering if I'll end up bashing in my factory steps if I leave them on for this run.

Hmm. Didnt use my sliders on the table but im lifted 4" and with my short wheel base wasnt even close to the body. There are rocks that guys stack to make a ramp to get their full size trucks in, I would atleast remove the steps.

I already planned on stacking those rocks also.

I would take them off too. They are easy to break I've heard. Better to be safe than sorry.

Mind measuring from the bottom of your sliders to the ground so I can get an idea what my clearance might be? I'll pull them off if I need to, though it might be better to leave them on and sacrifice them over bashing up the body. I just won't be able to sell them when I get my sliders if I bash them up.

I would value my rocker panels more than I would value steps, IMO. JKU= long wheel base= a lot more rocker panel= crunchy, crunchy!

I'm still in. The wife has had some contractions, so we should have our kid before too long. I've got a short list of things I'd like to do to the jeep before this trip, but I'm sure I'll be fine if I don't get to them.

Air compressor for airing up on the way out
home made quick discos
Mayyyyybe drop it off somewhere for a regear to 4.88, e-locker for the rear and a spartan up front. I'm on the fence with this one, but its going to happen eventually.

Something I'd really like to get done though is getting the rest of the parts for the soft top I picked up last week. I bought a good top for 80 bucks without hardware and snagged a free top with holes, but had almost all the hardware with it. I took the hardware and swapped it all over to give me one nearly complete soft top in decent shape. That being said, I still need a passenger door surround, mounting brackets for the roll bar, and the bar/brackets for the back window. Call me cheap, but when I've only got 80 bucks into the top so far its hard to pay 25 bucks each for the little mounting brackets. That way when we roll up there, I can throw the soft top on and go topless when we hit the trails. I like having a hard top, but it is a PITA to put on and take off all summer long.

Congrats on the child to be

Thats a long list in a short time. What parts do you still need for the soft top? there are many places within a few mins of me to get jeep parts. If you need help you can come over here and it wouldnt be a problem to get everything needed to finish.

Sliders

When I got my TJ it had fake tube sliders welded to the frame. They were smashed in various places, all bad. Chopped them off and got real sliders that attached right to the body, wheel to wheel. Now have 23 1/2" from slider to ground, and still have rock skids on them, but nooo body damage. These are a must if going on any off road trails, as well as a solid gas tank skid.(not the stock one).
As for the run, got two rigs coming for sure, both TJ's and maybe more. Cheers.

Yeah I'm just wondering what Droze's clearance in particular is so I can get an idea of if I might have any issues on this trail in particular. Rock sliders (Ace) are definitely in my future and next on the mod list. I might even break out a credit card for them before the run (which I will whine and complain about until I pay them off but oh well).

How much clearance do you have now with the steps on, and how much more will you gain with them off?

About 15 1/2 in the front and about 17 in the rear, would probably gain about an inch with them off, however the gas tank skid is well below the level of the steps. Gas tank and TC skids will hit first if the object is wide enough to go under the Jeep.

Sorry I did. 24" to my rubi sliders. Only 14.5" to my skid which did not touch either (really need to do that tummy tuck).

You have a much longer wheel base to consider though which will change the total clearance needed. I have much experiance in that from my suburban days, makes a big differance.
