I've got air, but good to know.

Okay, meet 10:00am at Vons. It's a 3-hour drive for me, but that'll work for me.

andiesel, does this plan sound good to you?

The camping passes can be bought at the gate. There are two different gates to get out to the sand, Pier and Grand Ave. Once you pass the gate there's a steep packed slope to get down onto the beach - you'll want to roll down and pull over to the side to air down your tires.

The camping area, while not always clearly marked is pretty obvious as there are huge campers and toy haulers every where. There are large mile markers on the beach to orient yourself. Like I said in my last post - camp above the high tide line! Go at least 2 or three campsites "deep" before setting up shop. The people camping nearest to the beach will be your buffer zone.

Take a look at the map (pdf): http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/pages/1170/f...n-Download.pdf

Best place to meet? If you take the Grand Ave entrance there's a large dirt parking lot before you get to the gate - should we all try to meet there? What time are we thinking?

Post any other questions and I'll answer!

darn, just now reading this after my last post...I get halfway through writing and then get sucked into meetings.

It's a 1 hour drive for me - I can meet at the Vons at 10am.

Yomondo - FYI you'll take air out of your tires when you hit sand so on your way out of Pismo you'll need to air up again at a gas station. Bring quarters.

andiesel, thanks for all the info. Good to know. Okay, so we'll meet at Vons at 10:00am. Sounds good.

Oh and what I meant when I said "I've got air" is that I have an air compressor so no need for gas station air. Thanks!

So do you get a lot of sand flying inside the cab with the top down? What about with doors off too? I'm wondering if I should put the top and doors back on for this trip if I don't want to spend a lot of time cleaning sand out of the cab.

I would put them on because when you go to the campsites there a small stream you have go through so it may get muddy

Sorry you can't make it. Most of the runs I'd be doing would be a bit of a drive for you, as this one is for me, but will be posted up here. I just posted this one up last night.

Just checking! It's going to be relatively empty this weekend based on the reservation numbers - and the authorities patrol through the night - it would be just my luck someone was 20 and I get slapped with supplying alcohol to a minor.

Santa Barbara is a pretty big party town so I always cover my bases.

I'm super stoked for this weekend! Count me in for some New Belgium Ranger IPA....and s'mores! everyone bring marshmallow spears!

I'll bring a bundle of firewood, an axe and shovel and some fire paste to expedite the fire starting. I'll also bring a 12-pack of MGD and a bottle of American Honey. And now I can't find my skewers. I guess I'll buy some tomorrow, and while I'm at it I'll see if I can find some of those plastic disposable shot glasses. It's gonna be a party, y'all!

Oh, and I found the plastic disposable shot glasses. I'll bring a table to line up the shots on.

Nice! Cuz if you're gonna get plastered you want to know you're at least getting your daily allowance of antioxidants!

Maybe depends on how big they are.....they might get blown away.

Get ready to camp in the rain there might be a thunderstorm...

They aren't very heavy.

I've camped in ALL kinds of weather, but I don't know if I want to hassle with drying out wet camping gear. If it rains I might opt for sleeping in the Jeep.

You don't really need poles and caution tape...people are usually pretty respectful of giving you space...if you're sleeping at ground level I would sleep inside our ring of cars...an atv crushing your rib cage isn't the best way to wake up.

oh my group will have 2 cars, with possibly another couple joining us on Sat and another friend joining Sun.

fingers crossed my jeep makes it.
