Ocotillo Wells Presidents Weekend

Ocotillo Wells Presidents Weekend February 16th to 18th. I was thinking about checking out the military training area Patton used, the Calcite Mines, and the Aircraft Graveyard one day and Superstition Mountains the other.

WWII Military training area:

Arroyo Salado: Vehicular Recreation Area - DesertUSA

Calcite Mines:

Borrego's calcite mine trail holds desert wonders Page 1 of 2 | UTSanDiego.com

Airplane Graveyard, see page 3:

We're in Gary, The Calcite mine is near the Truckhaven/Tierra Del Sol training area. That is long way from your other destinations.

Cool Grant, were open to any ideas, but would really like to check out superstition mountain one of the days.

The trip is ON, made reservations today at the Ironwoods, planning on enjoying some wheeling along with the chili cook off at the hotel.

Yea, The road to the left (at the railroad track)when Split Mountain ends is the siltiest I have ever been on. I am sure this last rain got out that way so it should be better. We can take San Felipe Wash from behind The Blu Inn out that way as well. Not much of challenge until you get to Superstition. Then we have pick some trails. NOT the ones recently posted up.

A little too much body damage for me.

I was waiting to see what runs or trails you were going to. You must be referring to the pre-mod run. Lol. aka body damage trail

Should be a lot of fun, and the ironwoods hotel is having a chili cook off. Can't beat that a fire, warm chili, and cold beer.

Fred1 and Kota have a home nearby, and I'm staying at the desert ironswoods hotel. Pretty reasonable rates at $79.95 per Night plus tax.

Desert Ironwoods Resort - Ocotillo Wells, Ca.

I haven't put much thought into it Gary. We'll put our heads together and come up with something.

Cool.

I want to pick your brain on your Fox Adjustable Shocks too. They may just be what I need.

So Saturday is going to be an exploration day. We are going into a part of the park that I dont know too well and going to find a phonebooth, fire hydrant, street sign, and an arch that you can drive under. I have an idea of where these are, expect a few u-turns and a few rough patches that we might come across. We cant get lost, Hwy 86 is way to close if we just cant find what we are looking for. Maybe after lunch we can head over to the notches and then the training area (have to test out some new shocks).
