I've seen a few Jeeps do it, and I believe my Jeep and I can do it with the right spotter and the right conditions. (Someday you might be eating your words. I see how you've been building up your Jeep. )

Most people I know don't understand why ANY of us do ANY of this and risk ANY damage to our expensive vehicles.
I've been asked multiple times why I would even think of taking a brand new Jeep out and, "thrashing" it. I quieted a couple after returning from Nightmare Gulch and them seeing it wasn't, "thrashed". I explained we had awesome trail leaders that led us through

I'll bet you wouldn't have to do much to convince him. He seems pretty game for anything, and capable

It helps even more with it not being his daily driver

No worries on this Gatekeeper talk, very few (if any) will actually be driving their rigs up Gatekeeper, there is a bypass around it. The rest of the trals can be challenging but there's nothing even remotely like Gatekeeper anywhere else out there. Wheeling at Calico is some of the best & most scenic you'll find anywhere in SOCAL.

P.S. your rig's description confirms it is more than ready for Calico.
The Jeep may be ready for something like Gatekeeper but I do not think I am. I am still getting over climbing a hill out by Lake Havasu and see nothing but blue sky out of the windshield. I had to open the door to see the trail and my spotter.

If anyone goes for the Gatekeeper, I will happily stand to the side and give moral support.

Mine's paid off and is currently kinda not my daily driver, but I still have no interest in breaking it. I think it's capable enough though.

I was there like a week before that, when I took those pictures of some friends going through the gatekeeper. See? It's doable. Just don't pay attention to that last guy who obviously has no problem abusing his rig.

Then you see another one like this one with a good slow methodical approach and good spotting that makes it look like a completely different and an even more doable trail.

Gatekeeper Calico Ghost town Dec 31st 2011 - YouTube

I may just be up for it again...
That's the way to do it without breaking stuff. Slowly and carefully with good spotting. That's how my friends went through it last year. No issues. Not even a tug. It took some time though.

I'd say minimum 35's and two lockers.

Take some pictures or video while you're at it.

I think the spotter is the make or break for the gatekeeper. If you have a good one who has done it before and your a good instruction follower then you have a much better chance.

I have yet to see anyone on this thread or forum say theyve done it since it's gotten bad I think Armand is the closest having watched some guys do it.

I am on the opposite end of the spectrum lol. If I came, and got my buddies along, id have my spotter...but the rig wont be a quite the level it probably should be to handle the gatekeeper.

I think if I have my winch on by this run and we do calico. With the right spotter I just might give it a try. I have a teraflex 4", MRT 35's, lockers, chromo's, 4.88's,anti rock, bilstein 5100's,Skid plates, and savvy sliders. Is this enough on a 04 Rubi to have a chance?

I wouldn't answer that question without my lawyer present.

We are gonna have to write up some release forms for the gatekeeper:

"I ___________ am fully coherent and aware the I am about to enter the Gatekeeper on the date of _____________. It is understood by, I, that the following incidents that could occur during this obstacle include, but are not limited to; body damage, screaming passengers, broken parts, airborn tires, offcamber situations, soiled underwear, and rolled vehicles. Any damage (mental or physical) incurred while navigating the Gatekeeper is the sole responsibility of a, Jerry Bransford.

I, ________________, have read understand the terms and agreements.

Signed,

I think anyone reading that would stop at, "soiled underwear" and change their minds They may not even get to your name

If Calico is the destination, the original post needs to include Change of Under garments and ear plugs (for the screaming passenger) on the equipment lists

Looks like Mr. Geoffrey has had to sign a couple of waivers in the past. The wording sounds all official. Good job. Oh, and Jerry, thanks for taking one for the team with the responsibility aspect. Much appreciated.

Well its gotta sound official...thats how you convince all these people to give it a shot.

Would you really feel comfortable signing something that said...

"I'm doin' Gatekeeper. Might crash it. The end.

I._____________Have decided against my better judgment to attempt the Calico Gatekeeper. This is Due to much prodding and peer pressure from forum members, and an overindulgence of medicinal sprits the night before. Campfire bravado has put me in a position of put up or shut up. If I die I will my leftover jeep parts to the same aforementioned jokers who have shamed me into this act of stupidity.
