September 28-29th. This run will be an overnighter, with camping or lodging in Shelter Cove. Saturday will include two trails, one being Usal Rd with a stop at Usal Beach. We will leave Willits Saturday and take Sherwood Rd to Fort Bragg. It will be dusty, so be prepared for it. We will top off with fuel in Fort Bragg and head north on SR-1 to Blue's Beach, where we will break for lunch. We will then continue on SR-1 to Usal Rd and break again at Usal Beach. Continuing on Usal rd will lead us to Shelter Cove and our campground. Sunday we will run King's Peak trail and end up in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. We will need to limit this run to no more than 25 rigs due to limited number of campsites. Like all my runs, this is a family friendly run.
Trail difficulty is "easy". There will be about 1/2 pavement pounding and 1/2 dirt trail/forest service type roads, with a little sandy beach time thrown in for some fun. If you're looking for hardcore wheeling, this run isn't it.
Meet up time will be at 8:30AM, Safeway parking lot in Willits.
Gotcha on the list Mike! Your wife will enjoy the coast! If you don't want to camp, there is lodging in Shelter Cove which is only a few miles from the campground where the campers will be.
Welcome aboard Mark! You'll want a tent or if you have a JKU, you may have room in your jeep. There are several sites to choose from. There is a parking area in front of the campsites to park your rig. A place to sleep and some grub to throw on the fire is really all you need. A few pics of the campsites.
So I just got back from Jeepers and there is no way my wife would go on that trip. So I showed her this thread and she's in on this trip as long as we stay at the inn.
Which hotel is the consensus hotel where the rest of you are staying?
I'd love to camp with you all but I am trying to get my gal onto the trail.

Sunday morning we will meet to take the second leg of the journey on King's Peak trail to Honeydew, and finally to Humboldt Redwoods State Park. You have the option at this point to follow or you could take the main road back to SR101 to end your journey. There is only one gas station in Shelter Cove, so those with thirsty jeeps may want to top off. Warning, it's pricey!
I would like to be on the trail no later than 10AM, so those that are hoteling it can meet me at the local store/deli in Shelter Cove. They make yummy sammiches there and have breakfast items as well. Meet up there will be 9AM. We'll then drive to the campsite and meet the campers at 9:30AM for final departure to the trailhead. Sunday's journey will end us up here.
It's roughly 1.75hrs from where we end up Sunday to where we began in Willits on Saturday, so you can gauge your drive home from that. If you aren't in a hurry to get home, I highly reccommend you drive back via Avenue of the Giants road.
