I'll be running Rowher trail starting at Bouquet Cyn Rd (by Bouquet reservoir) this Sunday 3/25. We'll be meeting for Breakfast in Palmdale at 7:30am should be at the trailhead about 9/9:30. Post up if you wanna go and I'll give more details.
It's rated black diamond by the forest service but a stock jeep can handle it, it's just driving up and down steep hills, mainly a fire road that runs atop the mountains with a couple extra credit areas to play on, it's a good trail for newbs. Where will you be coming from?
I have a 2012 Sahara JK (a stock daily driver) with the factory side steps. Is the trail bad enough that I'd have to take them off? (I've read on other threads that these side steps often get broken or banged up when on trails)
I also have a 2004 Grand Cherokee... would a stock Grand Cherokee (V8) have any problems on this trail? It doesn't seem that much wider but thought I would ask, since I'd rather use the Grand Cherokee until I put better tires the Wrangler.
I only live about 10 miles from there "as the crow flies," and I'd love to start doing some of the nearby trails and taking some pictures from up there.
IMO, you should have no problems with this trail. Recommendation would be to go with someone your first time through as it really doesn't lend itself to being marked well and there are a couple of off-shoots that can make it tricky if you wish or you just stay on the fire road.
Thanks DaK! I just looked at it with Google Earth... Seems OK. Lots of great views from up there, with the added bonus of being really close to Palmdale!
I hope to get up there soon.
