Rubicon Aug 5-6-7

Between jobs/have a hall pass from the wife and am thinking of spending a few days on the trail. I have driven both "sides" of the trail many times, but have never gone past little sluice (from Loon Lake) or Cadillac (from Tahoe).

Hoping someone on this forum might be up there, and not mind another jeep tagging along. Totally flexible on the route, but only have these three days.

Exper driver, TJ locked w/35's, winch and most of the basic tools - am pretty low maintenance.

Thanks for reading, PM me if you can help.

Brian

Where are you at in the SF Bay Area? I can't make it this time, but always looking for someone close in the Bay Area to get out on the trails with.

I am in San Carlos, but the Jeep lives in Tahoe. Id be open to trips down here too, just have to plan a little further ahead. Always good to meet jeepers nearby!

My wife and I are taking the MH & Jeep to Tahoe that week and had originally planned to do the Rubicon with some friends, but they are unable to go. We Are staying at Zephyr Cove and originally planned to run it on the 6th to Rubicon springs and finishing on the 7th. I don't know if she would still be up for it or not, but I would consider it. Were you planning on camping 1 night or 2?

We will be at least going into Loon Lake area for the day as we have never been to the Rubicon.

I am over in Pleasant Hill/Concord area... I don't mind driving to the Rubicon or any trails out that way. I will keep my eyes open for your next run out there after this one. Cheers!

Just keep in mind the Jeep Jamboree is running the Rubicon Aug 8-11. I believe they close the trail a couple days before the jamboree to pre-run the trail. Our group planned on running it Aug 7-9, but they just bumped it up a couple days earlier to avoid any conflicts with the Jamboree. Unfortuanely I cant make the earlier dates. Really bummed...

Yeah, I was actually planning on attending that at first and we might next year. I called up there because I thought the same thing you did, but she said no problem going before. Thx

We found out as long as you are on the trail before they close it, your ok. Otherwise you might be waiting a while behind the traffic jam...lol. Our group decided to bump the arrival date up a couple of days, which bumped me out of going. Dam work getting in the way of wheeling again...

BillG - I would camp one night only, and probably have two days on the trail, could be either Mon-Tues or Tues-Wed.

I will drive up to Tahoe very late Sunday night, staying near Camp Richardson/The Y. if you decide to go, would be good to meet up for a day, over niter, whatever you can fit in

Mountaineer, thanks for the heads up on JJ, I had no idea

Anyone up to go between 8-17 and 8-28? Planning for a two day deal, hopefully. I'll be in Tahoe 8-16 thru 8-24, and can stick around if someone wants to run the trail. I don't wanna be out there as the only rig(solo with the wife and two small babies.)

Rubicon Aug 8th follow up

Ended up being a day trip. From Tahoe to bottom of Cadillac hill and back. here is the only pic I took - after encountering a group of JK coming down Cadillac as I was going up. Wasn't really fair to ask four of them to back up. I sure didn't want to drive all the way back down in reverse. So with good spotting from lead JK driver we got my jeep up on the rocks so they could pass by.

overall a short but fun day. Click image for larger version

New job = no jeep for at least 2 months. paycheck will help pay for the next trip though. See you on the trails, B

Sorry, have to give you hell for the different wheel, tire, size spare on that thing! That's a big pet peeve every time I see it. Don't know why, but it drives me nuts!
