San Diego Camping

Looking to take the family out camping this week but am new to the San Diego area. Anyone have any recommendations for campgrounds? Somewhere with a lake that allows swimming would be GREAT!

Looking forward to getting out on the trails next month.

The swimming desire is gonna be tough, I don't know of any SD county lakes that allow swimming since they are all part of the drinking water system. You might find something private, perhaps one of the KOA camping sites might be good for that. Big Bear Lake has at least a few camp sites by the lake and so does Lake Silverwood up in LA county but I'm not aware of any campsites in SD county that have a swimmable lake.

Heck I'd like that too!

Thanks for the info Jerry. I don't know if you recall but you steered me to 4 Wheel Parts via jeepforum about 5 years ago for some work on my 01 TJ. I've since sold her and am anxiously awaiting the delivery of my 2012 Unlimited. Thanks again and glad to see you're still around passing on your knowledge. Next thing I have to find is a good club. I heard Justruns is a good time, especially for lots of trips.
