Slick Rock July 20th

The 20th works for more so it's the 20th now.
Thinking Sat July 20 will work best for most. This is up to everyone.
Start time 10am

To get there, drive up Highway 4 past Bear Valley to Lake Alpine. Turn south off the highway at the west end of Lake Alpine.

The trail has a difficulty Rating: Difficult
Rock sliders and lockers recommended, but not needed. (stock jeeps have done it. There are Bypasses
Trail Length: 3.7 Miles - point to point
Elevation Range: 6724' - 7403'

There is camp at the trail head. (others may know more about that Info.)

Gas Up: If you are coming from the west, get fuel in Jackson or Angels Camp. There are stations in the small towns of Murphys and Arnold (farther east), but you'll pay the price.

Slick Rock Road is a great scenic route with a few challenges along the way. Although not as difficult as near by Deer Valley(Closesd) Slick Rock is more fun to drive. Along the trail you will find great views of Alpine Lake, Silver Creek and the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Slick Rock Road is referred to as a road because it was once a paved service road. Along the trail there are still areas of concrete visible. Because of its short length and relative ease the trail only takes a few hours to run but also offers some great camping opportunities along the trail and Silver Creek.

I noticed Crawfish Man isn't on this list. Is he still going or not on the run?

Can't wait for Slick Rock! Wife and I will be up there Friday. Hope to hang with anyone who may be camping Friday. We won't be camping but we'll be staying close by.

Yes and no, had to dip out around 3pm to get back to the city. You were right behind me for part of it when we all got backed up going to wrong way.

Just curious what time we expect to make it back to the campground (assuming running the trail both ways)? Debating still whether to camp or bail and head back after we get to Utica. The only camping gear I have is a tent, sleeping bag, and some old backpacking/camping cooking pots I "inherited" from my parents. I don't have a camp stove or anything like that and not sure what if anything I'd need to invest in at least as far as one night would be concerned. So any tips there would be great.

And for any that havent been, there is food, a general store, restrooms, and boat rentals at the lake. You can fill up in Bear Valley (the closest to alpine) for like $4.55 per gallon. Arnold was around $3.90 per gallon. I normally fill up in Arnold (where my cabin is) and then top off again in Bear Valley.

Hahahaha I am always off topic... I am going to try, I should be able to head up Friday still...

Today has been the worst travel day ever.. our flight leaving Maine was delayed because of weather and then our flight showed up and they had no pilot (guess he called in sick) so they didn't have a back up pilot, cancelled our flight so we had to go to another airline get a flight to Philadelphia, and now we are waiting in Phili for a 9:00pm flight back to SF. Should land about 1am... major PITA today but oh well... my poor wife! 7 months prego and I swear I saw horns come out of her head today lol sshhhh

Oh but anyways, yeah I think I am good... think I have a Dr. Appointment that Friday so I can't be in Irvine
