Didn't mean to scare everyone. I promise I won't eat anyone for the first 12 hours unless I skip breakfast then maybe I can hold off for 8.

You WILL need to carry chains. If chain control is up they will not let you pass unless you have chains with you. Most Likely they won't make you put them on but they will check to make sure you have them.

I say it's a Go. By Saturday morning, the roads up should be clear. And the majority of the slushy stuff will be melted except for the North Slope stuff. And the higher elevations. I've run it in February. And was bone stock at the time, when there was two feet of packed snow. Lets do this!!!

If that's the case I'm out. Sorry. Not going to buy chains that I'll NEVER use

Even 4WD with snow tires? Am I really going to need to go drop big bucks for chains to fit 35" BFG KM2s when I likely am not going to need them?

I just got off the Rimoftheworld.net page, chains required on all vehicles, EXCEPT 4 Wheel Drive vehicles. We will be fine. These little storms are nothing. I'm a Go!!!

I've been asked,"four wheel drive?".. yes. Have chains? Sure. Never in six years have they asked to see them. Just saying....

I guarantee that road conditions will continue to change between now and then. But as I've said, I've never had to chain up. I don't even have chains. I've never even been asked if I had them. They've always took one look at the Wrangler, and waved me through. Lol

Here is the law for snow tires. If your tires have the M/S in the side wall your good to go without chains on the tires. I am going to keep looking.

So the fire road we will be on..., it obviously will be covered with snow as well. Is that a road that's pretty easy to drive in those conditions? Sorry for the worries. This will be my second time out is all. Just concerned. I trust you wouldn't be too stupid to lead a pack into the blind if you don't have enough trust that we all could make it.

I drove the road 3N16 this week. It is a well maintained fire road. There will be a substantial number of jeeps breaking the path. We will put the most capable drivers out front and split it up with Newbs and seasoned mixed. That way the trail will be packed down and very passable by the time a new guy gets to it. This is all going to remain fluid until we see what tomorrow brings.
Oh yah, good question Chris the road feeds some church camps and has pavement patches a mile long mixed in with the dirt.

I've made this run dozens of times. Winter, Summer, Day, Night, Dusty, Muddy, and Snow. I usually go it alone. It's my between Runs Withdrawl Fix. And don't trust me not to be Stupid. It's my middle name. But 30+ Rigs, don't worry Chris, you'll be fine.

With the group going we have all different experience levels. Considering that it is a fire road there should be no real issues. If you have front and rear recovery points we can get you out of any issue we may encounter. Besides, we wont leave anyone behind as coyote bait. Everyone gets home.

Weather conditions have to be horrible for them to make you put chains on a 4x. If they have chain control they will ask you. Do you have chains. You can say yes and they will wave you through most likely. If they check and you don't have them they will turn you away.
