Stolen jeep!!

Hi All,

My 2014 Wrangler Sahara was stolen early this morning in Mission Beach in San Diego. It is black with a soft top. It has Massachusetts plates and the rear tire cover says Gloucester, MA. If you see it please call police and send me a PM. Thanks!

Sorry to hear, but my guess is that it is already in Mexico. I hate thieves.

DAMN I HATED TO READ THAT!!!!!!!! My own '97 TJ was stolen in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego 5 years ago and I'm still not over it. As said above, I wouldn't hold my breath getting it back... it's likely already in Mexico.

What hurt me on having my '97 stolen was I bought it new and spent 14 years building it up, not to mention it had a lot of irreplaceable stuff in its big aluminum tool box like the Vietnam aircrew survival knife I carried in Vietnam.

Best of luck getting it back, I hope you do, just don't get your hopes up.

They should make a device that you can hide on your vehicle that will beep if it crosses the border, similar to those devices that alert stores to shoplifters when you walk out the door

Lojack. You can find it within minutes. Well, actually the PD can. They love chasing down car thieves using Lojack technology.

Once the vehicle is in Mexico, I doubt if LoJack helps much. Unless you can find an honest policeman there to help you <yeah right>. You need to prevent the vehicle from crossing the border in the first place.

since Mission Beach is only about 30 minutes from the "land of the stolen", you must get the vehicle stopped immeadiately, and not let it cross the border. Lo-Jack is worthless across the border, as the Mexican police are also worthless, and crooked to boot.

I've been in contact with a member of the Sheriffs Dept. who is part of the Regional Auto Theft Task Force for San Diego County. He says the auto recover rate for the county is close to 80% since January. Unfortunately, the Jeep Wrangler recovery rate in the same time is about 12%. Most Wranglers are driven immediately over the border.

Hey man. Sorry to hear about your loss. Like you and many of us we have been there. Jerry is one of them. My jeep got stolen out in the mission valley / Serra Mesa area in my apartment complex 3 days of me moving in. It's a sad thing that happens in SD. Post pictures and information. We will pass on the word to different forums, look in craigslist and keep your head up. At least you or your family got hurt. And hope you have insurance.

I'll bet that you didn't have alarm system. I don't mean the standard Jeep crap. I mean one that has ignition kill, auto activation, entry protection, etc. I mainly talking about a Viper or even Avital. The first thing that I did when I got my Jeep was take it to have an alarm installed in it. I have never seen a Jeep here that was stolen when someone had an alarm in it. Unless, they didn't set it. I just don't understand anyone living that close to Mexico without an alarm system. The Mexican Cartel love driving Jeeps.

In my personal opinion, alarms/immobilizers no longer serve as a serious deterrent to car theft.

The police/sheriffs/CHP/Border Patrol Jeepers who contacted me after my TJ was stolen 5 years ago said the same thing when I said it wasn't alarmed. They all said professional car thieves don't pay any attention to the presence of an alarm and if it's going off, they are seldom confronted. And if you haven't noticed, car alarms go off all the time and no one pays attention to them. And immobilizers don't work either because many stolen vehicles are simply towed off. Mine was winched from its parking space onto a flatbed vehicle recovery truck when it was stolen here in San Diego, they never even tried to start it according to a witness who thought it was being towed in for repairs.

I personally wouldn't waste my $$$ on any kind of an alarm system for my Jeep... and I am in the commercial security business. Especially since alarms/immobilizers can cause issues later even if they are properly installed. I'm always seeing people posting up in the variou Jeep forums saying they can't get their Jeeps started and that the alarm system has something to do with it. They are a PITA without sufficient benefit to me... from one who sells large scale commercial security products and systems for a living.

I'm just surprised that a 2014 was stolen. Most of the Jeeps I read about being stolen are TJ's and earlier. Now with the chip in the key, I assume they would have to flat bed it.

Definitely one more reason to not take my Jeep anywhere close to Mexico.

You would think the border patrol would see a jeep on a flatbed going into Mexico as suspicious ,but I haven't gone to Mexico in years I'm not sure they even care whats leaving the country.

The U.S. Border Patrol doesn't actively monitor or check vehicles heading into Mexico from San Diego.

The Jeep was found today in El Cajon. Apparently someone called anonymously and reported that it looked like it didn't belong there and the cops went by with their license plate reader and it came up stolen. I'm not able to get there until after work so they had it towed but they said it looked like it was in good condition and at least drivable. Thank you all for keeping an eye out for it!

One simple deterrent (delay tatact actually), is to have your wheels turned all the way to one side and then attach a club. It won't stop a pro, but will cause him to take the time to get the wheels straight before moving it. Especially in a tight parking spot.

Wow, congrats! You are so lucky. And, I would ignore those people who tell you NOT to get an alarm after their Jeeps were stolen when they DIDN'T have one. Get an alarm. The deterrent is worth it. A lady here on the WF had a nice Jeep and an alarm. Her Jeep was stolen when she DIDN'T set her alarm.

I've took my Jeep to Mexico, brand new, a few times. It had an alarm and I had no problems. I know for sure that my Jeep would have been stolen without it. Look at my Jeep pictures and you tell me.
