Summit Springs Run

This is copied from a fellow jeeper on JF who will be leading a run into Mendocino National Forest.

"I'll be putting on a Jeep run Feb. 16th in the Mendocino National forest.
Metting at the Cheveron station again at S.R. 29 & S.R. 20 in Upper Lake at 9:00 am. Departing at 9:30 am."

Anyone interested chime in and I'll be sure to put you on the list.

I think most people figured out it was easier to just use one forum. But, still a good idea to post on both just in case not everyone has a JF account.

I don't know. I've had an account on here and there for a while now. I use both sites regularly. I'll tell them to add you to the list, and will post any updates here.

Sorry, but there wasn't much interest over here, so I kinda gave up, but I'll try to keep up to date.

little update from lowranger today:

Made a pre-run today. There looks like there's going to be a little bit of everything on this run. Mud....a little snow....a couple creek crossings..... ruts that you have to cross and straddle. Not enough snow for tire chains. Looks like the stock guys shouldn't have any trouble.

List so far.....

Lowranger
JPetru82
Gene13
Jeepth1ng
Bobthetj03
Mitchell420tj
Rosajeep28
Xbcasey
89YJBuilder
AgentXJ
Sonoma_Girl
JKThomps
Ron & Kathleen (they should have cool nick names by run time)

Jimbob will post a few pictures of this pre-run soon.

Lowranger was wondering if everyone has either a CB or FRS radios. Post up what you got, and I'll relay the message to him.

The pre-run went well. A mixture of forest service roads, trails with lot's of washouts(off camber stuff) and slop with a little snow in the mix, although I don't know how much snow will be left by this Saturday. Should be no problem for a stock jeep. Some of the trails may be a little tight for the JK's, but doable.
Took a break on the way down French Ridge to take a shot of Snow Mt...

Here we are at the bottom of French Ridge going thru Crabtree springs....

Little bit of snow in the shady areas of French Ridge...

Lunch break....

A bit sloppy in areas....

Ohh, look Gene, mud puddles!

Got a little tight thru this area. A lot of downed dead wood.

Found a nice spot to break for lunch at the base of Summit Springs...

A little more snow heading down the M10 to Bear Creek. Fun in 2WD! LOL!

Final creek crossing thru Bear Creek...

I have an extra FRS radio you can borrow. The chevron is on the corner of 29 and 20. Not sure about directions from SR, I just take 29 all the way up from Vallejo. Maybe Jim or Gene will see this and post up some directions.

EDIT: looking at the map app on my phone, it seems you just take 101N and them get on 20E.
