I wish I could, considering I'll be putting my new tires on the Jeep this Saturday and would love to test them out, but I can't. I've got things to do on Sunday, plus I'm on-call so shouldn't really be too far from my computer.

Last chance is too far away for a couple hour get away. There are some other trails up around Silverwood that I would consider. Let me know your thoughts.

I think the snow will be pretty much gone by then if this weather continues. I hope mud is at a minimum, I don't like mud. We will see how the weather continues.

I'm only familiar with Cleghorn rd.
Yea as long as its near by I up for the run Silverwood sounds good to me, if theres mud bring it on!!!
Just to let you know since LA is a pretty big city/ county there really isn't anywhere close to us except for Angeles national forest and San Bernardino National Forest. So I say yea Silverwood or somewhere in that area since its a decent drive and pretty close.

Next time you guys make it out to last chance canyon, shoot for the last half of a month so you can roll through nightmare gulch also. Its a fairly technical section that is only open during certain months, during the second half of those months. Its very scenic and a fun ride.

Unfortunately, if you dont make it out by the end of this month...it will have to wait til the summer before its open. They are only open to vehicles from july to january for the second half of each month.

The Big Tree Trail has been closed for a few years the last time I checked. It is in the book but the book is old.

Lets do Pilot Rock Road at silverwood

the directions say take hwy 138 east about 16 miles from the 15. turn left on a small private road at a sign for silverwood lake state recreation area / miller canyon. Turn right almost immediatly on F.S. 2N37.

the trail is 8.8 miles long and takes 1-2 hours. as an option there is another trail at the end that is more difficult, 2N17X. it does not give a dercription or where it goes to.

so lets get a head count.

do we want to meet for breakfast? know any good places nearby?

If you take the 138 to the 173 and turn left it will take you around to the dam and from there you can take the easy road or the more exciting bypasses and you will also go by the 2n17x which is very challenging. The 173 is the turn off that will take you all the way to Hesperia. This is where I was thinking of going. My wife will be with me and she is not too much into getting dirty shorts.

There are some ugly difficult spots but like Cleghorn it is pretty much a dirt road with the techy bypasses. I have only done this one trail once before and that was last year so not sure of the condition now. If you want to meet at the McDonalds at the 138 and the 15 around 10:00 we could do that. From there we could drive back to the area. Let me know.

Okay. We will be there at 10:00. We will be in the parking lot or if too crowded out on the street. I think it is going to be cold.
