Yes but don't let this stupid video discourage you. That was just plain old bad judgement and poor spotting.

Yup...however that video is obnoxious. The driver took the harder of the two lines down, and had a spotter who didnt know what the hell he was doing. That video makes that obstacle look way worse than it truly is.

Truckhaven has a challenging Training area with obstacles ranging from Green to Black Diamond. I would like to lead a group for all levels (beginner, moderate, advanced) through Ocotillo Wells. I know some of the harder trails out there that have easy bypasses for those that don't want to take the harder trail. There is something for everyone.

Just a couple of pics of the stuff that we could do in Truckhaven. There are also rock trails on the back of Blow Sand Hill that are fun and will give some bigger built rigs a challenge.

Anyone against changing camping locations from Blair Valley to Tamarisk Grove campground? It is closer to town for food, gas, etc. and right in the middle of Ocotillo Wells and Pinyon Mountain Trail turnoff.

When I first saw this video awhile back I said I would never really trust a spotter 100% of the time but all my trips that I have made the spotters have been excellent and I wouldnt be able to do some of the obstacles with out them there.

Hopefully...once I start going down the hill there's no turning back.

With out me going back and looking through a ton of posts, has this event changed to going back down to Borrego? I was under the impression this was going out to Johnson Valley or Calico. I must have missed something along the way by not camping out on the forum.

I just assumed we were going to Anza because of the poll. I could have missed something, seems as though we are all just talking about what is out in these areas right now.

Holy Crap.
Kind of brings up the point that people assume a Jeep will just roll its side and stop. Not so much. That poor woman- as the driver of course its her responsiblilty to get the Jeep down. But why on earth would the spotter direct her high side there?
On another note:
Jeff- maybe its best to re-run the poll in February? March is a long way off. Jeeps change, people may hit these runs before then, gates may be closed etc....but everyone can still reseve the date. I for one would like to hit Anza soon. Just not this hill.....

There really is nothing to worry about with this hill. If you took the line we took last time the group went out there (the path in the right of that video, not the left where that lady went down)...it's a straight shot down. Your jeep would have no problem cruisin down that hill. Also...if the trail leader took us on the same trail as last time...Im not sure there is any other way than down. I am not familiar enough with the area, but from what I remember it was...turn around or go down haha.

That is one way from the squeeze on to the hill. Not sure you would even want to go up through the squeeze.

I like Borrego but I like to camp at Blair only because it is so open and large. My wife likes it down there too and it is more her style of wheeling, not so bumpy as she says. I have not camped at Tamarisk but I am sure I have been by it.

I think running the poll again is a good idea, especially with Christmas coming. Santa may bring Jeep stuff for some folks and that would change their capabilities. My concern isn't my Jeeps ability, it's the drivers

Who names these places, Heart-attack Hill, The Squeeze, Pucker Pass, Nightmare Gulch......someone with a sick sense of humor is my guess

Officially slider-ed and armor-ed up specifically for that reason.
Of course I can't get into my own Jeep anymore (slider step too high) but at least I am protected

My sliders are too high to use as a step also, luckily I can still jump. It's okay though, after a couple hits we took with them I'm glad they are right where they are

I've already got the skids picked out, just waiting to recover from a huge financial hit remodeling my daughters house. I figure Christmas is perfect

I've put this run on the calendar, no matter where we end up.

I believe Borrego has always been in the lead. I voted for it only because I've never been there.

JV - Nothing for the stocker/beginner group which is usually the largest group.

Calico - Pretty much the same. There is something for the beginners, but it's pretty much fire road for the most part. I did it last year because my wife was with me. Nice, but not challenging even for beginners.

We are putting this on our calendar. We've been to Borrego a few times, the wheeling is easy but the scenery is awesome. We have camped at Tamarask Grove and Blair Valley. Blair Valley would be much more friendly for a large group. There is more area spread out and a restroom for those that need.

OK, been a while since I poked my head into this thread... I know, shame on me for not keeping up to date in my own thread. Anyway, by the request of a few members, I will leave the poll open till the end of Dec. So if you get any Jeep goodies from Santa, you can use them to the full extent.

For those of you that I have not added to the list yet, but always show up (BillOTD), I apologize. I should have placed you on the list automatically. Consider you on the list.

I should have the updated going list up shortly on the first post. And remember, all WF members are welcome, regardless of experience, rig, age, etc. If you have freinds that are not members but are interested in coming, this is a great time to have them pop onto the forum and introduce themselves. Even if those friends drive a different vehicle than a Wrangler, all Jeeps are welcome. Heck, we have even had a Toyota join us before.

So anyway, I want to thank everyone for their interest in the next Turdhurdler Event and hope that it meets everyones expectations.

Jeff

42 Jeeps already and we aren't even in December. This is going to be a big M&G.

I know. A lot of Jeepers. I guess this is a good time to ask for a couple of volunteers to help in leading groups. I ask for any volunteer to enforce the rules stated in the first post, be patient with others that may not be as experienced in off roading and able to stay level headed in case of potential drama.

I can lead an easy to moderate group if you want. I already have an idea on where to go.

Going to be a bunch of fun no matter how it turns out.

Hey guys. This trip sounds amazing. just finished reading through most of this thread. I might have to take the long drive down from the Bay Area and meet up with guys. I won't know if I can go or not until a month or so before the trip. Mainly just wanted to subscribe to this thread so I don't forget about it.
Where is the spot at? I know how long it takes me to get to San Diego. Where is it from there?
