My clutch decides to be almost useless as of yesterday. an as I'm at school I walk out to one of my brand new 33"MTR's completely flat with a small slit on the inside of the sidewall !! Im a little pissed to say the least. Been planning this trip for months.

OK I am 95% gonna try the gatekeeper. If I can get a good spotter I'm on for friday afternoon. I wanna walk it first and see who is willing to spot me. Anyone up for pictures and spotting?

Dave, you will not have any problems on trail #2. On trails 1 & 3, the only reason one needs a locker is to get up the small waterfalls. But pleanty of people get up them without a locker. I have seen the way you drive, and I'm sure you can make those trails too.

If you never need a strap or to be winched, you're only taking the easy trails.

I thought trail 2 was more intermediate, is it really mostly fire roads?
Actually, I miss spoke. It will be harder than firefoads. But an easy trail for a jeep. This route is great for new drivers, anyone wanting a (mostly) stress free drive, stock jeeps. If this route is easy for you, then next time you will be ready to run the canyons. The canyons (Duran and Odessa) are full of rocks and waterfalls. They are also VERY scenic!

Here is a video taken from last year on the one of the waterfalls on Doran, this is the steepest one and the second of 2 in a short span of trail, but not the only ones. There are also rock gardens etc in this Canyon. Group 1 will go down this and group 3 will go up this. You can see that a couple of the prople in the video made it without being locked (after a few tries) and we strapped several people, but no big deal....

Be nice Rick. The gatekeeper does not look very hard on video

Last time I was at Calico someone camped by us said he did the gatekeeper and I think he was on 35" (locked F&r). But I really did not believe him.

Heck, if you want to get techincal, the last time I was at Calico I did the gatekeeper. Yep, its true. I parked my jeep at the bottom and walked up.

Here is another that I believe was shot by Geoff, its the same waterfall in the beginning and then moves on to pucker pass and another downhill waterfall. All these shots are in the direction that group 3 will be doing Sat...

I've walked right up that waterfall a bunch of times with no problem, but that one time in that video it was much more fun. It all depends on how the rocks are sitting on the bottom of it.

If this be the case I did the gate keeper on the 9th. We drove to it and walked up it also

I'm sure it will be perfect for us. The Jeep is much more capable than it's drivers at this point, this trip will be good for us to just get used to it. We had a great time at Nightmare Gulch and Last Chance Canyon, I look forward to just getting out anywhere this weekend.

What time are you going to try this? I'm leading a run on both Friday and Saturday. If the time works out, I will help you in any way I can. I also have a winch if needed...

I thought you were joking. Do you have lockers? You're profile doesn't mention any.

I will follow you on foot... My heap isn't paid off yet and my wife will barely give me permission to leave for the day...

Like Dan, I walked it last time and relieved myself on one of the rocks...

EDIT: Just looked at your profile again and didn't realized you have a Rubi, so have lockers. So that's why I thought it was a joke... More power to you if you want to do it. I'd love to watch you attempt it.

If I had cash, I'd offer you money if you make it un-assisted. I'll offer a beer though.

As a gambler, I will offer you a bet though:

I'll give you 5 to 1 for $20. So if you make it unassisted, I owe you $100. If you need help (strap, winch, or helicopter), you owe me $20.

The most you stand to lose by taking the bet is $20 and you can make $100. Sounds like a great money making opportunity to me!

Yeah but i'm going into this expecting to need help. I am doing it for the challenge, for the rush. If I make it i'll be high for a week. If I don't i'll still be high because I tried it. But I don't gamble. I am a horrible gambler. I might as well just give you the money at the bottom because if I put a nickel on it I will lose. Yup I am that bad.
