It is that time again folks. We need to start planning the next Turdfest event. From the talk in Calico, it appears that Big Bear is the place to be in Summer. So, with that said, is everyone good with the ol' stomping grounds of Hanna Flats Campground? Big camp, pet friendly, and they have put up with us the last couple of years. Generally, we have been choosing the last weekend of July and it has worked well, but I have noticed a trend. Naxja and a VW bug and Thing club also hold their annual trips in Big Bear the same weekend. Do we mind the extra traffic, or do we want to go the weekend before or would everyone prefer the first weekend of August? Give me your input and don't be shy about letting me know what is best for you. I look forward to your replies.

Date of event is July 19th thru July 21st. Base camp is Hannah Flats Campground. I will reserve my site in the next day or so, so anyone wanting to attend, please also reserve soon if you plan on being around the big party that always happens after the trail runs. Hope to see everyone there.

August would probably be better for me. I'd really like to be able to do some of the more challenging stuff this time around, and running in August should give me the time needed to get my lift going as well as lockers. But this is just me being selfish :p

If we go to Jeep Jamboree at the Rubicon it would be Aug 8th weekend...if not we would still be taking a week off around that time for a MH trip up to the area, but that would be flexible !

So far it sounds like your going to have lots of dates to plan around...or you can do the old dart on the calendar trick... :D

Like Bill, Dakota and I may be doing the Jeep Jamboree Rubicon August 8th. If the M&G is before or after the 8th (or we don't do the Rubicon) we are in for whatever date is chosen.

I know that u guys have had the M&G in BB before and most everyone has spent time wheeling BB...I was wondering if 3N03a (Horse Thief flats ..Black Dimond trail) is or will be on the list of trails...its an awesome run and often overlooked ...

#33 ·
Yup! 3N61 Jacoby Canyon was the other one I was gonna throw out there! That was the first trail I ran when I got back to California. Way funner going up but it's short, so I would throw Little John Bull in at the end and you would have a pretty decent moderate run!

U know Joe....maybe u can find it.....there used to be a trail that my dad & I would run all the time back in the 70's and 80s...and I haven't been on it sense the mid 90s... it doesn't seem to be on any of my newer maps...it was definitely a black Dimond trail by today's standards ....it was 2N69x....and if I remember right it around Hanna Rocks...great trail...

Just so happens I have a 1971 USGS map! I didn't see a 2N69X around Hanna Rocks but there was a 2N01X that shoots off of 2N68 that goes behind Hanna Rocks; 2N01X doesn't exist on my newer maps so could this be the one you are thinking?

I'll be up at Hanna Flats for the Veterans Run next weekend, I can swing down there to see if this is it and if it is open. Last time I was in that area (a year ago) the roads were still closed from the Butler 2 fire.

I'll check it out though, would be a nice option like the Stoddard Wells run you lead for the last M&G!

yeah it hooks behind Hanna Flats ... I'll look on the old maps some more ... I also checked out the closures with SBNF ... according to their website the entire snow slide area is still closed from the fires ... so if the trail is out by hanna rocks it's gonna be hard to get to
