"The Hammers" - So Cal...looking for info

Hi All...

So...Does anyone have experience here? A local group is putting together a trip...not that I don't trust these guys...BUT...Is it as nasty as I've read on the internet:

"Johnson Valley is a forbidding portion of the Mohave Desert with equally forbidding terrain. The trails that snake through the hills above the valley carry ominous names like Sledgehammer, intended to be descriptive of what your truck will look like it was beaten with by the end of the trail."

I'm one for a good challenge, but I'd prefer to not have the sh&t beat out of my Jeep :-)

If your jeep is the one in your pic...you are no where near capable. They are some of the hardest trails in California.

I believe there are some more amateur trails out there in johnson valley...but not the hammers lol. I believe there is one called Bullfrog that would be ok, but dont take my word for sure on it as I have personally not been out there

Yah... on the lake bed.

But seriously, I think the lowest rated trail requires 35's and lockers.

There are a lot of cool trails right here in SD. Hammers are just that "Hammers". If you dont mind beating your jeep with a hammer, dont go. More trails in Big Bear also, that would be great for your jeep........ my two cents

Actually got back today from a trip to the Superstition Mountains. Down interstate 8, turn north on Dunaway rd. exit, great jeepn, some tough canyons, some fun sand hills and lots of easy stuff too.

I purchased a Charles Wells off road trails book. Its really great, tells about the trail, how difficult and how to get there. I highly recommend it. One word of advise, if you will, try not to go alone if you are doing anything more than moderate trails. Such as the Pinion trail in Anza. It goes through the 'Squeeze' and has a hill named 'Heartattack'. Named for a good reason. Again my two cents......keep the change.

Just an idea on the terrain and what it almost requires.

My dream is to place the order to get that exact suspension setup. The complete extreme crawler stretch kit with 16" travel king coilovers and rock jock 60's front and rear....along with my 350 and 700r4. Oh well for now the 350 will have to do
