Hey guys great thread. CHP question. Just installed some KC daylighters. Do I need to have covers on them or will CHP leave me alone? Heading out there in 2 weeks to visit family in Bakersfield. Running I-40 then 58. Thanks for your help.

California has too many laws, but I've never been bothered about my lights for not having covers. Just make sure you don't turn them on while on the road!

Here is the Cali nanny law. Any light above 42" from ground is considered off road lights and need to be covered or face against the vehicle. Anything below that is considered driver aide lights and must only be able to turn on with the high beams on. Only exception is fog lamps that are mounts below head lights.

The sad reality is is California is about as close as you can get to a socialist state so if you want to be left alone don't come here. Out of state license or commercial tags you are screwed here and it's easy money for the commies up in Sacramento.

Yeah no joke on the nanny state. We left there back in 94 and every time I go back I can't wait to leave. Beautiful area but not the idiots that run it. I do miss going the Kern river to swim in those lovely 115 deg summers.

I'm out of Gustine myself lost the family ranch and orchard after the EPA choked out all the water to save some fish in the aqueduct. So yes I know the kern, and most the rivers that feed it. After I sell my house here I may move to panama or Philippines.

I understand that Panama is on the top places for an American to retire. Everything cost pennies on the dollar and they love us down there.

Heard from a guy in a local club that he got stopped for off road lights that didn't work and the chippy wanted to see that they were unwired or that the fuses were removed. I keep mine covered just for their own protection but as I understand it they can be pretty whinny. It wasn't a regular car that stopped him though, it was one of those big rig inspection pickups with the camper shell. Best to have something over them. You also can only have 4 forward facing lights including fog lights uncovered.

I've got friends who run without covers with no problems. One guy aims the ones on his lightbar straight up. Flips them down when he is going to use them. I have covers on mine. It's just to easy to put them on and not have to worry.

In California first you would have to run to the gun safe, then when you finally got it open you would have to remove the trigger lock. Load it and then go shoot him.

Exactly, because all of us are law abiding and don't keep a loaded shotgun behind closet doors or any handguns in the nightstand

Besides, in my house there are 3 very large and protective dogs that will give me time to go to the safe and remove the locks

Caleb and I spent all morning at the park, feeding the ducks and playing on the slides. We had a picnic lunch and just got home a little bit ago. I thought for sure he would be pooped and ready for a nap. He laid in bed playing and I can hardly keep my eyes open. Lol, I think my plan backfired

That's awesome

I think Mike is planning on having front locker installed before Big Bear, he has mentioned it a couple times.

We're gone to Lake Shasta from this weekend until the 6th, so I don't know what he has up his sleeve. I wouldn't doubt he makes a surprise trip that week and hauls the Jeep to Stans. He's a little unpredictable at times

Nice! It would take a very stupid, or suicidal person to think they could get past both. If they make it past the dogs, they will wish they hadn't

I love when Mike comes home from a hunting trip and is unloading the truck. Anyone driving by will see this guy fully dressed in camo, usually covered in some blood and carrying multiple guns and ammo into the house.

Luckily my neighbors are good people and we all know each other, it might look a little odd otherwise.

Add the fact we have a couple Sheriff friends that think its funny to come zipping around the corner and hit the sirens as they pull into our driveway

One of them works nights and constantly drives by and shines the spotlight across the front of my house. That's fine with me, lets the bad guys know my house is watched

My wife keeps one of my off-duty guns under her pillow when I work nights. I've had to hide in the bathroom and knock on the bedroom and yell babe I'm home door a couple of times when she didn't hear me come home. She would answer the door with the gun in her hand and ask why I was standing in the bathroom.

I've always told her to shoot first and ask questions later if she knows it isn't me. Of course that was before the kiddo. Now the dogs (80lb lab and 80 lb shepherd walk the house at night and they do not sound nice when they bark.

I think on 2drs selectable on rear due to wheelbase a d 4dr do a Detroit and be done with it....
Up front selectable on any of them.

Hey right on... congratulations bud...I'm sure you'll enjoy it...
When the time comes for the front 44...buy the bracket kit and swap in a Waggy or HP Ford...much stouter axles the the 44 jeep uses nowadays....
Hope to see you on the trail soon....
Steve..

Bob, Mike wants to know if your LED lights are spot or flood?

He's now receiving deliveries from Quadratec, I'm not used to that. Cabellas or Bass Pro I'm used to, that's a regular delivery for him. Lol, I'm dying to find out what's in the boxes

I would suggest flood personally. But it all depends on what you want.
