Details have not been finalized, but there are a few of us trying to put together a local run to White Mountain for the day after Christmas. Wanna join in?

Exact location for 9 am meeting. If you aren't in the high desert maybe Phil can provide a trail head location or other close meeting place in Big Bear.

Chevron Station #358566
22488 US HIGHWAY 18
APPLE VALLEY, CA 92307
tel: (760) 240-3885

From the rendezvous location (Hwy 18 & Central) at 09:00 we will travel east to High Road, turn right, then head up the Grapevine trail until we hit 3N17x, which is the White Mountain trail. Even tho it has a "Black Diamond" rating, I believe most any stock Jeep can make this run, even with open diffs (bring a strap, just in case). What else would you like to know?

I could get you there, but I don't remember all of the trail numbers coming from that direction. Perhaps you could get some directions to the Horseshoe Campgrounds. That is just about a ˝ a mile south of where 2N17x turns off of the other trail. I am only guessing that "other trail" is 3N16 (or maybe 3N14). If you can make it to the Chevron, nobody will get lost....LOL

So does that put you 80% at the Chevron at 09:00, or will you be trying to find your way from the other side of the mountain? I'm guessing (if we leave some time close to 9ish) we should be close to the trail head a little after 10:00. 10:30 latest baring any unforeseen complications. With a group this size, we should be able to get there in pretty good time.

Just curious how is this Trail for a stock JKU sport? Seems like a very interesting one.

The very first time I did White Mtn, my wife and I joined in with a small group of rescue volunteers being lead by to young female drivers, both with infant children in car seats, driving totally stock Grand Cherokees, with open diffs. They had no problem walking thru that entire trail (in the snow). I was too embarrassed to fall out from behind them. I have never been afraid of that trail since.

Talking White Mountain trail report

Light turn out today, but a good run all the same. With Sinisterphoto being a little tardy, we were happy to bump into him later on down the trail. Had just a smidgen of snow on the shadow side of the mountain, but it didn't cost us more than 5 minutes of delay time. Another beautiful day in paradise, Jeeping with friends.
Who can ask for anything more?

All the "good stuff" on 3N17x (White Mtn), including the "extra credit" stuff after it crosses 3N11. From there we broke for lunch by the campground and did 2N59A (Black/Blue Diamond) coming out by the power lines at Deep Creek Road. Easy run, good times, no carnage.

It was nice to meet you Jim. Glad you could make it out. Hope you will bring a few of your locals out this way for future runs.

I have a feeling there is going to me a Matino Wash run in the near future (before some tree hugger gets us barred from passing thru that cattle grazing land). I think you would like that one
