The pic shows what they removed. That's my disc that was sticking into my spinal cord. My doctor who's been practicing over 30 years said he's Never seen anything that big. He was impressed and took this picture. Crazy huh?

Keep me posted on the date, maybe we can take the motorhome down and camp out, never camped there before.

I only took the pain meds for two days after my knee surgery. I was afraid of them, too many horror stories of people getting addicted plus I don't like taking meds either. I did over do it one day and had to take half of one that night to sleep.

I'm thinking January..like your birthday timeframe. December is too soon and hard due to the holidays and February is too far away. March is Calico and WAY too far away. So, January seems right to me.

Yes? Bernie, Parker and anyone else..

As best as I can tell we don't have anything going on for mid-January, so we should be good for then.

My daughters schedule changes in January and both she and her husband work will work some Saturdays. I watch Caleb for them, but he's easy and would love to go anywhere Papa goes. Just keep me posted on the date, I'll see what Mikes calendar looks like and what we can work out

We'd like to go. I am free every weekend except the weekend of the 19th. Debbie and I have been talking about a weekend of beach camping in the RV for a while now.

Any weekend is going to work for me. I think it's really going to come down to what works best for Parker and Lisa..and this is an open invite for anyone who'd like to be a part of it. I'll just be so happy to see my buddies I don't think I have ever gone so long in between visits (wheeling) I need my "friends fix".

It'd be fun to pick up that bean bag toss game, BBQ and camp right there on the ocean!

How about Jan 12th weekend as a tentative date?

Thanks buddy! Altho it's only Wednesday and I feel like I need to do some things around the house. It doesn't take long before I'm quickly reminded my body isn't ready for it yet

BBQ and games at the beach sound awesome right now! If that date works for everyone else, all we need to do is pray for decent weather! That'll be a lot of fun! And you can't beat waking up to seagulls cryin', dolphins swimming, sealions bobbin up and down in the waves, the smell of the salt and waves crashing !

Hi Lori,

If you are interested in Homeopathic Medicine like I am, I use a patch that is working wonders on my back and so are others. No drugs. Nothing enters your body and no side effects. It was developed for the Navy Seals. If interested, I'll send you some free. They work in seconds. I'll PM you my number and if you want to talk about it give me a shout.

I hope that all goes well. I had the same surgery done in September 2011 by Dr. Amory in Oceanside, CA. I had shooting pains and numbness down my left leg and foot for nearly 6 months prior. My doctor kept giving me pain meds and telling me it would go away.
Finally I convinced him to have an MRI done and I was in surgery the next morning. My disc had exploded and was displaced by nearly 10mm. While they were in there, they cleaned up two additional discs.
I was up and walking the night I had surgery, and out of the hospital the next day. I will warn you that it takes a considerable amount of time to regain the feeling in your lower leg and foot. It took me nearly 6 months, and I still can just barely feel (after over a year) the outside half of my left foot.
Do everything they tell you, go to the physical therapist and you should be able to easily hit the trails by February.
I wish you the very best, and keep us posted!

Yes, the numbness is the very thing that still drives me crazy. It's a little less but by the feel of things, I'll be in the same boat as you were. It had gotten to the point to where I was standing over my desk at work bent over because I couldn't sit anymore. And once I went into the doctor, everything was ordered STAT. Before I knew it, I was put under and dreaming of rock crawling as I was coming out of surgery. No joke. I was disappointed I woke up lol

I'm 4 days out of surgery and I feel a lot better..and LOVE not being at work.

That sucks Bob! Maybe you should just go to an outside doctor for a MRI.

And you'd be amazed at how lazy I can be. I have my moments

It's not laziness, it's healing time Sometimes the body just feels like doing nothing so it can regroup for the times we over tax it. I try to convince myself of this, I'm horrible at being down.

I drive Mike crazy, I can't even sit through a movie at home. I constantly have to be doing something.

We have a Corn Hole bean bag game, that and Beer Pong are staples on our Delta trip

I sure wish the VA would fix you up though.

I feel your pain. About 2 yrs ago I bent down after getting out of the shower to dry my feet and something let go in my back. I thought I pulled a muscle. After about 4 minutes I knew it was much worse. With in 10 minutes I looked like a pretzel and was in shock. I continued to try to "walk it out" and after 45 minutes I went to the ER. They quickly called it a muscle spasm, gave me some pills, slapped by butt and sent me on my way with a bill. One day later I woke up and literally turned to my other side and I felt like I got a kidney stone x2... Ive had em i know how they feel.. HORRIBLE. Well, it wasnt.... With in 5 minutes I was on the floor throwing up and water falling out of my eyes. Couldnt cry out.. nothing... I got driven to the ER where I hyperventilated and passed out twice. Got an IV and then they took xrays. NOTHING. said i had muscle spasm and accused me of of having withdrawls and I obviously was an addict because spasms cant put me in that much pain. I cussed the Dr out and they gave me some Diulodid. I passed out, 5 hrs later i woke up and went home... 4 months later with daily misery i finally got an MRI. L4-L5 had ruptured out and the disc tissue was blocked up at a nerve pinching it periodically. L5 was severly degenerated. The neurosurgeon said if i have another attack that he wants to do an epideral. then if no help he's going in...
It's a life changer. I never really had another severe attack and think my body absorbed the tissue thank God. I still have muscle imbalance and disc issues when flying or long drives. Am VERY careful and much more deliberate with my movements. At 38 I feel 68 sometimes....
Do as much as you can to avoid surgery. your ciatica sounds pretty bad so you'll most likely go under the knife. Good news its that success rates are high even though risk is high as well. I wish you the BEST OF LUCK and a speedy recovery. You'll never be the same mentally, at least I'm not... and you'll appreciate every day of minimal to no pain. When better be sure to improve your core strength, hamstrings and posture. Everyone should be and we never think about it until we are symptomatic.. I took my jeep out 2 days ago on the 1st wheeling run in almost 3 yrs. It was wonderful! You'll be better soon as well. Just keep that depression at bay.. its hard to do sometimes.

Sorry to hear you went through all that. I don't know if you read the entire post, but I went in for surgery right away after the MRI. I had a huge left paracentral disc extrusion at my L5-S1 that was 19 x 16 MM of inferior migration and a 6 MM of superior migration. Caused severe Spinal Stenosis and compromised my left S1 and S2 nerve roots which has left me numb still on my left side..there's more but ya get the picture.

I think the very thing that is helping me with my recovery is that before I went in, I worked out regularly..in fact, have been working out my entire life. Cardio and weights including core muscles..so thank God for that.

Doc says it'll be a year before I'm 100% but I should be OK to resume somewhat of my normal life (WHEELING hehehe ) by March Yay!!!

Oh, and as far as depression goes- I don't have any of that. In fact, I think I'm happier now...even dealing with this. I can't stand my job, so it's nice not to have to be there right now while I recover. And to add to that- I have the best of friends here locally and not too far up the road
