I'm sure you are pretty on par with what they would say though.

I'm on Pirate. I would say that would have been said if you posted it in the wrong section. They do have flame free areas over there. Some areas are highly moderated than others. Just don't go over there and post a question like "what axle do I have?" in the Hardcore section. There is a section for that, just not "Hardcore." GCC is always good for a laugh. They have Dana 60. 14 bolt, and coilover bibles and lots of other great information in the Tech section.

I bought a portable toilet today so I don't have to crap on the trail that me and many others are looking foward to enjoying.

I think I may have to watch my diet a couple days before hitting the trail and avoid Tommy's burgers at all costs

Let me know what day you head for the trail. I'll join you if I can talk my friend into coming with his JK. I know my tj can make it, but the JK will be a bit more difficult. I'll be less than 30 min from the Rubicon for the next few weeks

I appreciate you posting up and I am looking for some capable trail buddy's. I don't know if you have wheeled the Rubicon before?

To be honest I am a little concerned that you have doubts about your buddy's rig and you still want to bring him with is more concerning.

I have not wheeled the Rubicon but I do know it is challenging and far from paved roads .

I've been on the Rubicon once before I could drive, but my jeep made it through before I put in the Dana 44 and took out TC drop (my dad drove it). I've been on trails similar to the Rubicon with no problems.

From the factory, the JK's come with the little trail rated badge, meaning stock they can make it through the Rubicon with a professional driver. My friend has a 2.5" lift and 33's, so I know he can make it, it just depends on body damage.

My most recent adventure

Sitting passenger and not being old enough to drive doesn't count. LOL

If you buddy doesn't have sliders he should proably pass unless he wants body damage. Maybe Scott or Sccafire can chime in and give us a better idea of what to expect on the trail since he has ran it before recently.

That is a good lookin Jeep.

My wife's stock mall-crawler Grand Cherokee with 20" wheels and skinny street tires has that badge on it too. I highly doubt it could survive ANY difficult-rated rock crawling trail, much less the Rubicon Trail. According to this, "If your Jeep has the trail rated badge...should be able to tackle moderate trails in your neck of the woods".

Definitely agree. I mean I'm sure it's possible to get through without sliders and without body damage, but the odds are stacked up against you if you choose to take that risk.

Awesome pics ... thanks for sharing! Hope to make the Rubicon myself someday! Did you take on Little Sluice since they broke up all the rocks?

I missed the entrance to little sluice but I did see it from above. It looked like it would have been fun.

I ended up running with the white YJ in my photo's. Father son and friend from San Jose and not part of the Wrangler Forum. We met at the trail head and both of us needed a trail buddy so it worked out good. We camped at Rubicon Springs and we were the only one's there besides Dave the camp host who was a real nice guy. I did the trail on Tuesday and Wednesday so only seen a total of 2 other small groups of 3 to 5 rigs.

I can't say enough about this trail it far exceeded my expectations. I will definitely be jumping on any other opportunities to hit this trail again next year.

Ran 13 miles of it today, lots of fun! We didn't do the whole thing because didn't have camping equipment with us, so we left after breakfast, had lunch on the trail, and made it home for dinner. No damage and met lots of really nice people along the way.

Thats great! How many miles in did you get? I assume you went in past loon lake? Curious to know what can be done in a day trip in and back and how hard the first few miles are...

Nice Mark! I'm definitely interested to hear more about your trip. Mostly, how hard was it and what you would compare it too.

Hopefully I'll make it there someday.

First few miles are pretty easy. Stock jeeps are fine, saw a few stock pickups. All of the sudden the trail goes from like cell phone sized rocks to tire sized rocks. I don't have too many pics but I do have a few videos.

We made it just over 6 miles on the trail in just under 3 hours.

Oops!
.

Hi Rick, in regards to difficulty and not having a choice or bypass I would compare it to Holcomb and John Bull. There were a couple spots that 33's were definitely not going to cut it so I went around. The guy I wheeled with had 33's and open diffs and he winched once and stacked rocks several times and even got out the high lift jack once. He was determined not to have to be strapped and he succeeded. He was smart about it and didn't take the harder lines when there was a choice.

Rick you and your Jeep would have no problems doing the Rubicon and you should change the hopefully into a definitely someday.

Bill it depends on what end you start from. I know you enough to say that you want to start on the Loon Lake side. The photos I have attached above are in sequential order starting from Loon Lake.

It took me about 3 hours to get the Little Sluice area and we stopped for lunch prior. Buck Island Lake was about 4.5 hours and we stopped and talked to a guy named Merlyn for about 15 minutes along the way who was spreading the word on trail safety. Real nice guy I also attached a photo. Rubicon Springs was about 7 hours after stopping and swimming in Buck Island Lake which was awesome. (link to map below)

My favorite part of the Rubicon even though the whole thing was awesome was from Loon Lake to Buck Island Lake.

It looks like jeepwayoflife started from the Tahoe side.

I talked to Stan prior to this trip and he was right on the money when he said most of the challenging parts are from Loon Lake to Cadillac Hill.

Hey Mark, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I posted the same on the M&G thread by accident. It was early in the morning. Can't wait to hear all about your trip.
