Who still wants to wheel 8/11 - Silverwood - Pilot Rock

OK I committed to go wheeling TOMORROW on the Silverwood Lake trip but at the last minute they changed it to the 18th

I can't make it on the 18th and now I am not sure I would commit to a run with folks who cancel at the last minute.

Anyway, I am still up for the 11th. I'd like to meet at McDonalds at 138/15 and leave there by 09:00.

I would like to head up Pilot Rock (2N17X). From there I would like to explore Big Bear a bit. I am open to suggestions depending on what other folks are driving.

LMK

Wheelers:
RKWFXD - Rich, Dave and Tyler

Possibles:
BillG. OTD

I'm in and will see you there at 9am. Not sure if I will have time to make the trek to BB, but maybe. The higher we go the cooler it gets...Deep Creek will be nice! See you then!

Hmmm. My w/e plans fell thru because my wife may have to work. She will find out today if she has to work or not. If she does not, we will be in!

Cool!

A couple of months ago my buddy Phil was gonna lead up up Pilot Rock (2N 17X) and around BB and up / Dishpan but we had two rigs break on Pilot Rock. Took all day to make a parts run and get everyone on the road again so we called it quits. Phil is going to try to make this run. I went down Dishpan a couple of weeks ago. I feel confident I can make it up.

The worst part of Dishapan is around the middle where the real tough stretch of rocks and waterfall is, but there are two ways through that section. As long as the jeeps have some lifts & armor, it shouldnt be a problem. 2N17 and Dishpan are considered blk diamond, but IMO Dishpan is much tougher than 2N17.

I would be interested in going and trail riding with other jeeps. Right now I don't have a passenger. Is this a situation where you need to bring your own spotter?

NO. You will not need your own spotter. We work as a team on my runs. If you are solo and need a spotter we (I) will get out of my jeep, walk back and spot you.

We will be operating on CB Ch 16. If you do not have a CB and want a spotter just flash your head lights.

We will go as slow as the slowest person/jeep.

If I go I am only running 2n17 and then heading home. I have some things that need doing at home.

I'm probably in, although I don't think I'll be able to make it up Dishpan without Bill's winch . I'm definitely itching for a run though! Deep Creek sounds fantastic, and Hurley needs some swim time.

My buddy Phil is in an old lifted XJ with open diffs and he makes it up Dishpan no problem.

OK as near as I can tell from the maps I have on hand this is the run.

Leave from McD at 138/15 at 09:00. Meet up with my buddy Phil and possibly one or two more at the Silverlake dam off of 173. Quick drivers meeting, air down and head a couple hundred yards up 2N33 to the start of Pilot Rock 2N17X.

Up 2N17X. For those of you calling it a short day, when we get to the top of 2N17X it intersects with 2N33 again. You can turn right on 2N33 and follow it down back to the dam and head home.

For the rest of us we will turn left and follow 2N33 to 2N34 and 2N34X back to 2N34. This will take us to the concrete bridge at Deep Creek also T-6 on some maps. This is also the start of Dishpan.

You can take a look at Dishpan and if it is not for you, back track a short distance to 2N26Y and in a few minutes be on pavement on Hook Ct and into Arrowhead in no time.

For those of us doing Dishpan, we will head up 3N34 for Crab Flats camp ground.

From there I am going to head down 3N16Q to Green Valley Lake and then head home from there.

So that is the plan as of right now. Subject to change by popular vote or trail carnage.

No worries Scott, my winch will be there and yes Hurley will dig the water at DC!
