I had to look at the rating you mentioned because my book and maps have Holcomb creek trail listed as difficul. Dirtopia also has it listed as Difficult. It has JB listed w two diificult signs and it is the toughest trail that I have found in big bear. The 1st time I ran it I was open on both diffs and had 33s, but I ran it backwards...big difference.

If you don't take lots of time on gold mtn and start early, onyx summit is one of my favs, lots of different obstacles and terrain.

Yeah, We could run horsethief flats after running gold mountain, there is also a trail that takes off gold mountain that keeps you in the trail system more, but you miss that nice rock garden. Time wise, your idea is good and we wont spend too much time on the black top (w aired down tires) just past the entrance to Horse thief on 3n03 there is a staging area w bathrooms and benches if we wanted to have lunch.. Its all good to me...the weather calls for a sporatic week and may get some small amout of snow...

Yeah Stan, I like that trail also and I was thinking of that. I was also trying to see on the map if we would have to drive very far on the highway with our soft tires, unless 3no3 will take us there. As far as that goes we could probably wheel that area forthe day...

It's about 10 miles, maybe we should save that for a day to do and take our time. I think white mountain is close to gold mountains exit. Gold mountain is a pretty quick run (2 hours) to do it and nothing else in a day, unless we run over to chads for a cold beverage or go for a late lunch

white mntn is just as far. its prob about 7 miles.

my plan would be finish gold mountain then take jacoby canyon which exits to the 18 then 1/2 mile down the road well hit 3n03 then maybe another miletheres a staging area for lunch then back track 1/4 mile well hit horsetheif. (measurments are an aporximation)(should be pretty close tho)

What time you guys want to meet at the Discovery Center? 9:00? 10:00?

Or if there's somewhere better to meet?

Where to meet depends on which way you go up the hill...if people go up the 38, they would be driving out of the way to go to the disco center. I can go either way, I live just off 38 but sometimes take 330.

What would be a better place? Preferably a restaurant, 7-11 or something that people could type into a GPS. Like the navigationally challenged like myself.

Yeah, its supposed to be a weird weather week. We could pick a back up trail to run in the event we are snowed out...Pilot rock, Cleghorn, Miller canyon and depending on snow level maybe Pinnacles to deep creek. I know one thing...Im going out no matter what!!! Heck, I would even consider a Calico preview....long day on that one....

Yeah, weather report says snow today, but not the rest of the week.

I'm with Bill -- I'm doing SOMETHING that day even if Big Bear doesn't work out.
