DVNP - Back Country Roads

Death Valley National Park has over 1000 miles of back country roads to explore. Thought I'd share this link from the National Park Service for those that haven't seen it...

Definitely Fall to Spring Time Frame, Don't think that I can handle the 125 degree in the summer out there.

Been there a couple of times in my 'Yota, and can't wait for the weather to get cooler so I can see how the new JK handles the roads. Been to the hot springs a few times. Very relaxing! My bucket list includes Barker Ranch and Goler Wash, and over Hunter Mtn and down Lippincott...

Went up to Briggs Camp a couple weeks back with DW. The 8 mile climb to the camp was very interesting and challenging. The Camp is first come first serve. Bunk room full kitchen outhouse with fancy floors and even a shower. nice place to hang out but you need 4X4 to get there with high clearance. The stock JKs did OK but challenging. The trails above the camp were also land for lockers. Since I didn't have I went anyway and made all the trails but it is breathtaking. Level 2-4 in spots and some of the sustained climbs are tough but passable without just have to drive oit right and not stop.

Did not see anyone else up there and the mileage to Balarrat is 198 from my house here in town.

Definitely a great trip for a weekend. Coming home no A/C in the afternoon through DV was hot as hell it was about 118 when I came through and I had a loss of horsepower and the tires were funny in the heat. Even the fuel tank vents were playing hell in there bad smell in the heat but once it cooled off a little on the way home everything was back to normal.

Could be a good weekend trip.

My intention was to go up Warm Springs Canyon, check out Striped Butte and the Geologists Cabin, then head over Mengal Pass, down Goler, and head into Ballarat. I was figuring making it a 2 dayer and camp in/near the Geologists Cabin. This would give us a day to explore Striped Butte Valley(?), and another day to head down and explore Ballarat and all that.
