Mine near charleston

Have any of you hit it? My wife and I got fairly close one before but the trail got a bit too interesting for my modified KJ. The JK should walk through to it.
It is located pretty much in the middle between Kyle and lee canyons. About half way up.

All that I have been able to gather is that it is an old mine. 2 floors with 2 main shafts/entrances that were slated for either covered up or blown up and at least one or up to 3 air shafts. The air shafts are still accessible but some belly crawling might be required.

When I first looked it up I found a description and details on what was there but have since not been able to find it and it seems to have become one of folklore, lol. As most things in the desert, they seem to be lost or forgotten about...either by choice or chance.

I wouldn't mind checking it out. I went up a few weeks ago to try and find it with a buddy of mine but we ended up on the wrong road and got side tracked with the old car cemetery up by the heliport. (cars are getting removed FYI not as cool as it was a couple years ago.)

I'm in the next time you go to investigate, if you don't mind an extra vehicle tagging along.

Anyone have problems with the "JEEP DEATH WOBBLE"? I've read post in the past and most people were told to change there tires but most of them said it didn't help.

could be many things. First hijack a thread, then check your track bar bolts to ensure they are tight.

Haha. Try posting this in the general discussion threads. You'll have much better luck getting an answer.

pat65th there are tons of threads using the search on DW. Simple is rotate and balance sometimes it goes away but DW simply put is when the aggregate of all components vibrate in rythym giving the great scary DW. It could be anything from tires to ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks, wheel bearings, steering stabilizer. So after reading the threads and some have the solutions to that particular problem make a checklist of items to check from easy to hard cheap to expensive and see whats up with you rig.

Sounds good. Will probable get a group run for that area later this month or next.

As for the DW, I would first check all the bolts and check for extra play in joints and what not. I don't think it would be the SS but I could be wrong there.

That Ada and Edith mine might be interesting. I have not gone to that one either but have been on the trail head a couple times. Hmmm. Might need lockers for that one. It was pretty interesting last time I went that way. That is where the two pines are super close to one another and sometimes you need to have your mirrors in to get past. I say sometimes only due to the size/width of your vehicle.

I used to have an 08 FJ Cruiser and ran/run with Sin City wicked FJ's, anyways Nick over there is a huge mine and ghost town trail leader. We just did a run to one of the biggest gold mines in Nevada not to long ago hittin up a few other abandoned ones on the way. They are very interesting to see and visit.

Talking Sat pm & DW

I'm down for the mine saturday, too. [Mormon Well sunday, too, but that's another thread.]

My 2012's starting a little shimmy, especially when aired down on asphalt. The oscillations seem to self-dampen for now. Thanks for the tips.

Another half day idea sometime would be those dirt roads between the north side of the Flamingo sanctuary and Lake Mead. They're not real Jeepy - a sedan could make it - but they weave through some nice mud canyons. I like to keep these in my back pocket for out-of-town guests because it's only a couple of hours and they're so mellow.
One of 'em's called Rainbow Garden, I think.
If anyone's interested, start a thread.
