Reno Area

We are seriously considering moving to the Reno area from Pennsylvania. I'll be able to transfer there, so a good job will await me.. High Sierras in our back yard, Moab only a days drive away, along with all the other hiking and jeeping that region has to offer and real estate prices are well within reach. That's the good things.. What are the unexpected pitfalls? Any comments are more than welcome !! Thanks !!

Lived here my whole life. Plenty of places to off-road. Just about any type of terrain you want. Nice weather except the spring. Summer isn't too warm or humid. Fall is usually perfect and winter is cold, but between storms it can be beautiful. Spring is a lot of wind, rain, snow. Reno has everything you'd ever want. Great place.

I moved to Tahoe seven years ago and love this place (airport in Reno is only 40 min from my place), Reno is a small town and located in CA's back yard and you get to avoid the state income tax here. The Rubicon is just over an hour away from Reno/Sparks (east entrance) and lots of other amazing destinations like SF, Northern CA, Yosimite, Napa and on for very close getaways.

The downfall of living in NV is unemployment is very high and for some reason we keep voting in Harry Reid (or rather he keeps cheating his way in), erh. The state is broke but seems to get by and the real estate market is way down from when I bought in the high of the market (end of 06).

Good luck in your move, I think overall you will really enjoy the area!

*edit just noticed this thread is six months old. Did you make the plunge and head west?
