Saturday 5-11-2013

OK so I know that the Desert Wranglers have a trip scheduled over Wheeler Pass this weekend. The group is full. I am up for something on the northwest part of town Saturday, say maybe Angel Peak, if anyone is interested, let know. Or if anyone has any other ideas I am open, just trying to stay on the northwest side of town.

Went out for a short trip up Potosi Mountain, Liking the lift a lot. Even though I ended up getting close to 5-6 inches at the front from a 3.5 inch lift it is still a subtle difference until I go to climb into or out of the seat. Can definitely tell the lift is there then.

Was thinking about joining the trip over wheeler pass a few weeks back and then noticed the number of jeeps, 30 may be just a few too many at one time Weather should be nice, so you guys should have a great trip. See you on the next one.

Yeah I actually signed up for the dw ride. I might break off and take the side trails over to carpenters canyon though

Be pre warned that you will get some good desert pin striping on angels peak going down the Kyle canyon side. great views from up there on a clear day though.

Meet at the Lowes north of 95 at Durango and Farm at 8:30am May 11, 2013. Gas'd up and ready to go before 9:00am.

The last time we went up there I think that it took close to 3 hours to get to the top and just a little less to get back down to the 95. FYI, I picked up Desert Pin Stripping on the way up, I don't remember any on the way down.

Weather is looking good for Saturday right now, hoping for a clear day.

Angel Peak - Offroading trip | EveryTrail

Here is the route that I normally take starting out from 95 right across from the Corn Creek(To Mormon Wells). Then from the summit cut out to Kyle canyon.

I like going up from the Kyle Canyon side too, but people without lockers have had issues because of the loose rock.

Thanks, the last time I did this I came in from the Kyle Canyon Side and made it fine with my stock Jeep, Coming up from the 95 had quite a few wash outs that are easier going down than trying to climb up. We will have to decide which way to go on Saturday.

We did that trip back in feb and didn't have any issues. We had a full size f150 long bed, and a couple wranglers. No lockers on any of us, might just depend on the line though. We even had a stock H3 pass us when we were coming down.

I don't know if there is any snow left on Angel Peak for the kids to play in. Angel Peak is the mountain just to the northeast of Mt. Charleston and if my memory serves me correctly it is only an elevation somewhere around 9000'. I can see the radar towers at the top from my house but it is just far enough away that I can't tell if there is any snow up there. Temp's up there should be in the 50-60's at the top so I would say probably no snow. Still a good ride though and you can see the snow on Mt. Charleston just can't play in it.

It was a good run. The brush has definitely grown quite a bit since the last time I went up there. The view of Vegas was a little hazy but was visible and the temp's were in the high 60's. All in all a good day.

That just builds character.

Exactly, if I was going to restrict myself from the possibility of scratching the paint we would have bought a $40k Grand Cherokee. I am having an absolute blast with the Jeep, I wish I would have let my wife talk me into a Jeep when we first came to Vegas.

To be honest I got white because it hides most of the pin striping. While I would love to have a black Jeep, I could not have one with the heat and the fact that it shows everything.

If I was that worried about it I would get something like this... TrailSkinz | Skin it - Trail it - Protect it

I am with you on White being a good choice for not showing scratches or even dust. White Jeeps are great looking overall.

Talking It was a Good run

I didn't know there were trails that gnarley that close to town.

Ray didn't mention the last thing, but maybe it belongs on the chit chat thread.

We were back to 95 just doing that final tailgate when this big Dodge crew cab and shell rolls up on us. It had those little LED running lights but they lit up in flashing blue and red. This big biker-trash looking hippie gets out with a big ol' gat on his hip and a badge hanging from a string around his neck like Miami Vice.

I didn't know if this was a shakedown by police impersonators or what. The guy claimed to be a federal special agent and Ray was performing furtive movements under his seat. Since we weren't shooting or growing pot the "agent" left, but I thought maybe somebody might want to know that there are undercover in the boonies.

Hence the reason I normally have my .45. If the truck was not marked and I was in the middle of no where you can guarantee that I would keep moving. Lights or not, if it was that important they can call the helicopter or marked units to get me to stop

Didn't really have the option of moving, was stopped airing back up when he pulled in right in front of us as we just got ready to start back up and get back on the freeway. I think that I made him nervous as I bent over to disconnect my mic from under the glove box, he must have thought that I was stashing a handgun. He wasn't much of a Big Biker Dude like Terry was stating, I would better describe him as a Mr. Clean Type with a little Napolian Complex going on. It was a little comical the way that he came at me with authority while his bitch hopped out of the passenger side and just watched from a distance.

There are a lot of them with that complex. I am always armed when out there too. He was probably just pounding his chest to try and impress his hoe.
