What's the Deal With Lakebed Mudding?

After a rare rain some folks head for a formerly "dry" lake to run around but maybe I don't get it.
Sliding around at low speed sounds like fun if you know you can't get stuck. Slogging around knee deep in mud that has broken glass in it to hook up tow straps - not so much.

Do the lakebeds only get muddy a couple of inches deep so there's no prblem? Or is wallowing in mud the fun part?
Is it easy to avoid getting stuck if you don't want to wallow?
I'm picturing a daisy chain of alternating tow straps and rescue vehicles slipping and sliding around trying to pull out the person who's turn it is to get stuck.

Then again, there are people that buy brand new jeeps just to play in the hills of Apex.

What is the deal?

Kind of quiet on the Nevada Thread lately. How is everyone doing?

I am laying low for the next couple of weeks. I have a CB radio to install and football to watch this coming weekend. I will be looking for a ride during Pro-Bowl weekend. Would like to go out and tool around in Lovell Canyon a bit. Maybe take Lovell canyon over to Pahrump and come back Wheeler Pass.

I don't know if you can get through Wheeler Pass. 7700 feet and all the recent snow may have to run up and see how far up I can get maybe over the top but rain Thursday and cold for the weekend so may be more snow locally in the mountains. It would be nice to do that in a day that would be a great ride back instead of the highway.

I agree on the football and I just got a call to fix a van for friend which will probably tube anything Sat morning. Just a water pump but vans suck can't get to anything the way the engines are mounted.

I got some minor work done on the YJ little stuff top resealed and new seals on the passenger side door along with a major issue after I installed the booms. I had a driveline vibe again the booms added and changed the oinion angle. Finally picked up some new spring shims and got it right. Good to 70 mph thank goodness. Driveshaft is still good all the u-joints were all good. So maybe Pro Bowl weekend. Souns like a deal.

Been having a blast! Keep trying to get Anthony out but something always gets in the way. His end or mine just never seems to work out. I will keep in touch. FYI, I will PM you my Cell Number.

I am glad you had a good time Raptor. My water pump job turned out to be a freeze plug and the Jeep leak was a tranny seal. All fixed ready to run next weekend. Desert Wranglers doing a camping trip starting out in Barstow. May go.

I finally have a weekend where my Motorcycle Club and the Desert Wranglers are on different days. So I get to go on the Old Mojave Road with the Desert Wranglers on Sat. and do my M/C on Sunday. :) Finally get to take the Jeep out again.

I am doing the weekend trip going to meet at the turn off from I-15. I just am not fast enough to keep up with all those new JKs on the highway. Got all the camping gear just have to figure out how to stuff in the YJ. Raythom see you there should be a good ride Derrick usually does some great trips.

Had some fun tonight working on a 95YJ. Got a bad trans leak from the seal between the tranny and the transfer case. Topped off and scheduled for Monday. Good looker but needs some attention. After some parts and little love we can get his Jeep fixed up and add Greg to the list of local for our weekend trips. He is the original owner of the YJ I drive now. What a deal we had a good time looking at both of them. So I will get him going and we will have another YJ for the weekends.

Anybody go to the "Event Horizon" that was held south of LV back in 2003 or 04? What happened to it? We went, but understood it only was held that one year. We had a great time, but it sure gets windy out there in the pucker brush.

raythom3 just got in not a bad day. Slow start but some good trails and some sightseeing at point sof interest on the way. I did get tired of the hoopties on the way out. Probably 5-6 miles of em. But a great trip little cold last night. Trip home was uneventful so only have to fix my speedometer and maybe rinse it off. Everything is covered in dust. I'll be ready to go again real soon. May post some pics later.
