Tailgunners View - Trip Report

The Pahrump Valley Four Wheelers hit the trail yesterday in search of new routes and found a fun easy trip.

From Beaty, we followed the NPS (National Park Service) directions that state...

Start: 11.7 miles north of Beatty, Nevada
on Highway 95, watch for gated road to
the left
Camping: yes
Description: Heading west across
Sarcobatus Flats, the road forks in 12
miles to Strozzi Ranch on the left.

Much of trip was on the old Las Vegas & Tonopah Railroad right of way.

The road to Strozzi Ranch...

Strozzi Ranch...

Lunch at the camping area at Strozzi Ranch...

After leaving the ranch area, we headed back on a bypass road that paralleled our original route to the ranch...

On the old railroad right of way, one cut was sluffed in, but there is a go-around. The same can be said about the numerous washouts at some of the fills. There are one or two off camber sections in cuts that are filled with rocks to negotiate, and the right of way is narrow in a couple spots where the roadbed has been washed some.

Our trip ended up just west of Rhyolite...

We had a great day. Lunch was at about 7000 feet, so it was very comfortable.

I drive thru Beatty on my way to Tonopah, every week and always wonder what kind of trails there are in that area. That might be a drive up Friday Night, Trail ride Saturday, and return to Vegas late Saturday or Stay an extra night and return Sunday kind of trip.
