Since the trail starts in Nevada, I thought I'd share a short video of our recent trip through the well traveled canyon...

Great video thanks for sharing.

Now for some questions as I am just getting into this video recording and making hobby.

What software are you using? I am using Pinnacle 17.

What platform are you using to edit? Right now I am using a 4yr old laptop and am experiencing extreme lag time with the video loading into the software during editing.

Am thinking if I want to decrease the processing time of video making a new computer with a lot more RAM is going to be needed.

Thanks,

DaK

I use Pinnacle Elements 11 for my video editing. This program seems to have an issue with video quality with file conversion to MP4 so I create my video files in AVCHD format and use a free video converter to go to MP4... Just takes a few extra minutes but the final video quality is much better.

I'm using a purpose built desktop with 2 TB hard disk and 16GB of ram. The processor is an Intel Core i7-3930K at 3.20GHz. Operating system is Windows 7. You don't need a video card unless you want to use the same computer for gaming.

It only took me a week of trying to edit an 8 minute video to decide to take the dive for the editing computer. To improve your laptops performance, you could try and turn off virus protection and any other programs running in the background. Get rid of all crap on the hard drive you really don't need and defrag the drive. That may help enough for you to get by if you are doing small projects, but I agree that if you want to have much fun with video as a hobby, you will need to improve your editing platform.

Thanks for the info, great stuff.

As of this moment when a 8 minute segment is pulled into the software I have to walk away for about 15 minutes while the system just loads it into the editing cue and there is a long pause every time that segment is edited in any manner. The first attempt to make a video took me 9 hrs due to being unfamiliar with the software and trying to interpret the manual. The next video only took me 3 hrs and most of that was waiting on the editing cue to catch up.

Thanks again for the information now at least I know it is more a hardware limitation than a user issue. ;-)
