the reason i ask is because soon ill be transferring duty stations there and I've never been there. so I'm asking how is the weather there? are there many sites to see in that state?(i know about the national forest redwoods and seattle tower) what else is there?
Rain 8 months of the year, 2 month overcast, and 2 months of sun if your in Western side of state. Eastern, 300 days of sun... 2 mountain ranges, beaches with cold water, A desert, a 14,400 ft mountain, handful of ski resorts, and a bunch of military bases..
1. The west side of the Cascade Mountains tends to be wet, in some places very, very wet, as in there is a rainforest. Also some really big cities over there with gobs of people and horrific traffic. There's also some tremendous beauty, particularly on the Olympic Peninsula.
2. The dry side of the Cascades. East of the summit it gets progressively drier, even to the point of becoming "high desert" with terrain & vegetation more similar to the Great Plains. More conservative politics. Colder. Hotter. Fewer people.
Washington has some amazing fishing, salt water & fresh water. Salmon, steelhead, trout, sturgeon, bass.... Lots of fishing.
Hunting is good, but not great. There are easy to obtain tags for elk, bear & deer. Three different species of deer and two different species of elk to hunt. Lots of bird hunting as well, if hunting is your thing. It is mine.
Skiing, hiking, mountain biking - all terrific!
Some pretty good 4x4 trails, though different from what's found in say California's Sierras and deserts.
