So, just throwing this out there to see if anyone is interested in a easy fun run?

Saturday June 18th 2016

"Ocean Shores Sand Sculpture Show"

Caravan and cruise over to Ocean Shore for a fun time on the beach. It'll be a good time to meet fellow Jeepers and relax and play in the sand. Meet up in the morning at Shari's Restaurant in Federal Way next to Costco and then head down to Ocean Shores. No requirements need for this run. Fully stock to first time Jeepers are welcome.

More info. to come if we get enough Jeepers interested...... ;-)

So, thinking of moving the meeting point to the Walmart across the street from Costco in Federal Way @ 830am. Reason being is that it is the only grocery store that I know of in the area that is next to the freeway. Also, it's always nice to hit the grocery before we hit the road, incase anyone forgot to bring anything. Cause the next stop will probably be Aberdeen before we get to the Ocean.

Head count for next weekend?

If your interested in going or thinking of maybe going just chime in here a "Yes" or "maybe" and that way we can get a quick head count and see how many Jeeps/People to wait for at Walmart before heading out.

Question, what time are you meeting?

Just here in WA for the summer, visiting kids and grandkids. Snohomish.

The wife's not up for longer highway rides in the Jeep because of the noisy tires. (I'm working on that issue) We travel in a 42' RV and tow the Jeep behind as a driver
.
Would love to come along, sounds like a blast. It looks to be a little over an hour for us to meet up with you all and then another 2 hours to get to the beach.

Can you give me more information about Washington's drivable beach areas.
Like:
What beaches / where located? (now know about Ocean Shores and Long Beach)
Where / how far can you go on them?
Restrictions / passes?

Thanks, Mike

Hello Mike,

Ocean Shores - southwest Washington

Glad you and the wife are gonna try to make it out. You don't have to caravan down with the group if you dont care to, you can just meet up with us at the beach if you wish. But, if you do want to the drive from Federal Way to Ocean Shores beach is all flat Highway and is a nice easy, relaxing drive. We'll stop in Aberdeen for a break which is about 25 miles from Ocean Shores. Once we get to the ocean there are certain areas of the beach that are closed during the summer months but, the rest of the beach is open which is several miles. When your on the beach it is actually considered part of Hwy 101. No passes are needed, speed limit is 25 mph and all vehicles must be street legal. There are also several stores, restaurants and gift shops on the strip before we head out on the beach and everything is close to the beach so you can come and go as you please. They have a go-cart track in town and they rent out mopeds, electric bicycles, etc. you can take out on the beach if you like. When were on the beach you can setup bonfires, BBQ, fly kites, etc. The sand sculpture contest is next to one of the main beach entrances.

*We are just going out for the day but, there are plenty of hotels and places to stay if you want to stay the night. If you have a motor home or tenting it, there is the State Park that is next to the Casino that is down the street from the strip. Not sure if I left anything out? Lol any question let me know and hope I can answer them.

*Another reminder for those going. You might want to bring your camping folding chairs, unless you want to sit on the sand. Also, if you have them bring recovery straps, cause with Jeeps being out on the beach, you may be asked to pull someone out.... but, that's only if you want to. On one trip, a group of us helped pull out 54 cars.... just to fill our karma bank.... no charge. lol

It doesn't look like people are reducing tire pressure in those Jeep pictures. I take it the sand is pretty compact in general?

#28 ·
Yes, I never have to air down over there. Most part the sand is hard, if you keep close to the water. The closers you get to the dunes, the sand gets softer and that's where most of the 4x4 park. But, overall all types of cars drive on the beach just have to watch out for the soft sand if you don't have 4 wheel drive.

Dang...wish I knew I could have driven my Jeep on the beach when I was there! I had a TJ at the time and just parked at the end of a street and walked along the beach. People were looking at me funny as I was walking along the surf with my shoes off. It was Thanksgiving Day and I was wearing shorts while everyone else had puffy jackets and jeans on. Drove there from Seattle as I didn't have anything better to do, and I missed seeing an actual beach. (From California originally...lots of visits to Pismo as that was the closest beach)

When I do a google search for "Ocean Shores Sand Sculpture Show", all I get is Ocean Shores Sand and Sawdust Festival, June 24-26?

#32 ·
Never mind. I see this year they split the function up into two parts on different dates. The Sand part and the Sawdust part.

#34 ·
NEW INFO. I called the Ocean Shores Chamber of Commerce. They said they went back to the Sand And Sawdust event all at the same time and that is not happening until next week, the 24th - 26th!

#35 ·
Wow, Thanks for the heads up, didn't know they changed the dates. Oh well.....still gonna do the run if anyone is still interested. We're going to be down there for the 4th of July and I don't want to do a back to back. Plus, it'll still be relaxing time out there. ;-)

I stopped by the Sand and Sawdust event. Here are few pictures. I took my recovery strap along as advised and sure enough I rescued a couple of damsels in distress. They said another guy offered to pull them out for $25 bucks. I did it for free.

Two under construction

This was one was showing what it looks like on the back side of Mt Rushmore.

The following two are one display that I took two pictures of it. It is the political mascots of the Jack Ass and the Elephant pulling apart a ballot in a tug of war.

Yes, the weather was good. And the forecast looks good for the next week too. I don't know of any trails in that area.
