I didn't know that. I did think it was somewhat odd that it was a HP44. But I would say it is well worth 1500

Potentially. The HP is nice for the ground clearance, but I'd say a rear HPD44 is no stronger than a regular ol' D35, if not weaker.

Really? That is good to know. I will do some more research on it. Because I have upgraded shafts too.

The weakness is in the ring and pinion. Being reverse cut puts the load on the wrong side of the splines. You'll bust a ring and pinion before a shaft.

Don't give up hope, dude. The right one is out there.

Check AutoTrader too, not just Craigslist. AT is where I found mine.

Ah... I gotcha, well we'll see what happens after I run the YJ into the ground. Right about then TJs will start looking appealing I think.

Probably not that bad. I don't know why he re-geared to 3.73 though...That is a nice Jeep. The 8.8 in the rear is stronger then a Dana 44

When he talks about taking out the air compressor, does that mean the front ARB locker wont work without it?

5th gear will be absolutely useless, but 4th would put you right in the sweet spot at 60-70mph (2100-2500rpm)

No, it really isn't, but unless he's changed his speedo gear your speedometer is gonna be way off.

Yeah i'm thinking it might be a little off too. The one with 33s on it the guy said it was off about 5mph around 55mph

I can verify it by GPS during test drive. usually when they're off its obvious.

I had the same question. I get my TJ re-geared next tuesday-wednesday and then wait till at least 500 miles before i go out again Its going to be so nice with 4.56 gears and actually be able to use 5th gear and have power Decided against the 4.88 since im just going to stick with 33's and i drive long distance once or twice a month.

If I had a dollar for every Jeeper I've heard this from...

I'm out for this weekend. Replacing my oil pan and upgrading my steering on Saturday. Will have to wait 'til Monday to get the final alignment done. :/

Next weekend is out for me too. I'll be west side wheeling Walker Valley!
