I'd only recommend people fully locked with fat tires oba and a winch attempt it

Hey what do you guys recommend for front diffs? I am planning on putting in a 5.2L sometime this spring and thinking the 30 isn't going to last. Already have an 8.8 in the back. Cost is a factor, but fab work isnt. I have been looking at doing a high pinion 44 and shortening for waggy axles.
Dont want to start throwing money into the 30 and have it still be a weak link.

I have a 302 and a d30 with 35s. But I am switching to a d44 front and 9in rear. The 8.8 in the rear I have now is plenty strong. But im not narrowing the 44 so I need the 9in mostly to match the width.

The 30 is a fine axle if you leave it open. But I hate putting money in it. Thats why im going 44. Easier to justify spending money imo.

I think it'd be easier and cheaper to run the 9/44 truck width which is about 65" wms to wms. Plus the 9 is stronger than an 8.8

Mine is an 87 yj.

Ya, on the width that might not be bad. If i did a normal offset wheel it would be about the width i am at now with these retarded offset wheels. Really wanted to suck them back in a bit though.

It wouldnt be that big of a deal to narrow a front and then just use a 9" out of the earlier trucks. I think the 72 and earlier used narrower axles.

Squar eyes has a 9in thats narrowed hes gonna be selling soon. You could narrow the 44 to match. But honestly 65 wms looks bad ass. Nick post some pics of your jeep

That looks about the width of mine. My wheels have a stupid offset that hangs them way out.

Well those flares are 6" and im probably 5 inches past that, no way a stock d30 even with 0 backspace would be that wide lol
