The grease point was covered by the boot and since the boot wasnt banded down on one side, it sucked water in, and the splineshaft was rusted inside.. there was other prior damage he mentioned that I dont exactly remember.. basically it all has to be rebuilt

I would go to the shop in postfalls! I was quoted 250 for a brand new one!

Too late now :/ this shop is very reputable though, I have no doubt in their ability to repair it right. I think there were a lot of contributing factors in its demise... I wasnt doing anything difficult.

Edit:
Also was just thinking that there is a lot of measuring involved in getting a new one too, I'd probably end up getting charged a lot more.. Might as well have the existing one rebuilt

Best day I've had thus far at 7 mile. I did mostly everything and am a lot more comfortable with my jeep. Leaving now.

So as I am leaving I see these two kids run towards me in my jeep. I stop and they asked if I had anything to help pull them out. I don't but I decided to go check outthe scenerio of how they got stuck. The were in a nissan frontier and it was stuck in the middle of the frame on a mound. All I did was laugh and say "damn man, shoulda got a jeep!" Then proceded to try and help. After all said and done I left them stuck since I did all I could. The kid said to my jeep comment " I just need bigger tires".

So glad I own a jeep,better yet a TJ

Mitch and I are going to head up there some time to see what the snow is like and make a decision from there. Last time I checked it out (middle of Feb)the road was blocked off by a huge pile of snow. I'd really like to make April's meet up at compressor as I'm a bit tired of 7 Mile. If so it will probably be sometime around the weekend of the 16th or 23rd of April.

Well I think I might not wheel for a while, that was a big hit to the pocket book. The shop checked the angle of the drive shaft and suggested a transfer case drop, or remove the overload springs to drop the angle. I'm at around max operating angle coming off the transfer case.. Id really like to get things squared away before I beat on it anymore..

Plus now the front diff is leaking out the yoke..

Id really like to get a traction bar for the back, new springs, new tires, repair the front diff seal and get an OBA system so i can use my front locker..

Edit: @#@@@! @!@##@@@# !@@@###@ I didn't see how much it would cost for your driveline. Why the hell does it cost that much? You can order that CV DS/SYE lumberjack linked for that price, then sell the SYE.

Edit 2: Buy the CV DS/SYE, but buy the SYE for a TJ and give it to me :-)

You can make a t-case drop.

Step 1) Get some extended bolts for your skid plate (1" longer than stock)
Step 2) Get some solid metal tubing (about 1") and cut 6 1" lengths
Step 3) Drill holes in the 1" lengths of tubing the size of your bolts
Step 4) Install

Happy whelling (with better driveline angles)

Probably should cost around $10?

How does this drop anything besides the skid plate? Does the skid plate act as a cross member on wranglers?

Next order of business for you, get a tow strap. Every Jeep should have one and it will only cost you around $20. If you were the guy that was stuck I bet you would wish you had one...but it's not like a TJ would get stuck anyway

PS do you have a t-case drop? I was thinking it would be a Band Aid to postpone the costs of SYE/CV/adjustable UCAs. I have one on my TJ with a 4" life and I have no vibes. You lose an inch, but like I told DP you can make them really cheap (or buy one for a reasonable price).

Yeah. I'm not a big fan, it makes taking off the skid somewhat tricky. But it also makes things simple

wmpiehl: the kits ive seen seem to have varying sized spacers, starting smaller to larger.. i imagine it gives the skid plate an angle to it.

Interesting..... Cost savings I guess.... Not really a structural issue just a pita issue like you said lol.

Yeah im going to pick one up when i pick up my speedo gear this week. I do have a t-case drop already. I only have a little vibes but the stress of not having my driveshaft in line properly and the wear it can do, i rather just buy the SVE/CV now and install it ya know. I rather be safe then sorry and have to replace more then needed when i could better prevent unwanted wear from not having the proper parts. Thats why i bought a SYE/CV last week and am just waiting for it to arrive

The skid plate holds up the t-case. Dropping the skid drops the t-case

My Teraflex t-case drop doesn't. I could see why you would want it that way though.
