Washington Help

Howdy Guys.

I recently had a 2011 Sahara but it wasnt doing it for me so I traded on another car. However, I missed my jeep and wanted a project 'jeep'. I went out and found an 03 Rubicon for <10k and just snagged it today. The problem is... I have never been a mechanic type and I am absolutely sure this car is going to need some work.... I know enough about jeeps to know whoever had this thing before me did some serious wheeling in it (Upgraded tires, winch, lift, fire extinguisher... etc) but I have no idea what I should do to to it before I take it out someplace proper. I cannot find a TJ chiltons to save my life.

Are there any local Washington mechanics you guys would recommend? Any symptoms I should look for as a serious problem?

Thanks

You did not mention your location, so a mechanic recommendation would be tough. A few things to check though:

Does it crank right up?
Does it shift through the gears okay?
Does it stop quickly?
Does it track straight?
Does it dive or squat on stop and start?
Are there any noises that sound abnormal?
Does the wear on the tires look even?

4 Wheel drive:
Does it shift form 2H to 4H to 4L okay?
Do the lockers engage/disengage okay?

This is a start.

Does it crank right up? - Yes but it has 141k miles on it

Does it shift through the gears okay? - Yes
Does it stop quickly? - No
Does it track straight? - seems so

Does it dive or squat on stop and start? - Not sure what you mean

Are there any noises that sound abnormal? - Rattles like a bugger
Does the wear on the tires look even? Tires are new

4 Wheel drive:
Does it shift form 2H to 4H to 4L okay? - yes, but... Here is the thing I am unsure about. . In four low it seems like the revs exceed the crawl speed. My last jeep was an automatic and it seems weird to me.

Do the lockers engage/disengage okay?

The light does not come on when I flip the switch. Does it have to be in 4 low to lock out?

I am in Seattle but would travel anywhere for an ace....

I've been happy with Olympic 4x4 in Snohomish.

The lockers will only engage in 4Lo. No other time.
Dive, front end nose down when braking.
Squat, rear end drops when throttle is applied.
Rattles, hard to diagnose without being in/around it. Is it at idle? Or when suspension is used?

I am in Olympia, you can bring it down here if you want.

I'm in Renton highlands and could meet up and give it a look over. Or bring it on by my place. I have most tools and welder if needed. Have that TJ running like new in no time.
