Hi Ted, we normally run with SW Washington/NW Oregon Group and looking forward to running with you Aug 5-7.

We are planning on heading over the Sunday before and be in the SandPoint area so have a few questions:

1) Where will everyone meet and stage before going on the trails?
2) What type of trails should we expect and how modified does the Jeep need to be to for those trails?
3) Besides food, water, camping gear what else should we have?

Thanks - Dennis and Carolyn

1. We will all end up meeting at he Travel Plaza in Sagle, I think some are meeting up in CDA and driving here.
2. Stock jeeps will do it. Most trails are good graveled roads
3. That should be all you need.

We will be in grizzly habitat.

It depends on how soon I can get out of work. I might not be able to get to Sagle till 6pm but it is also a possibility that I could be there as early as 3pm. I won't know till I get back to town and run it by my supervisor.

Can a 2wd Dodge ram make it to the campsite? I might have to bring 2 rigs, the Jeep and my truck to carry all of our gear.

Yes. Roads are in great shape. I'm thinking about the small motor home. I can load a lot in that. If anyone can carry some firewood let me know. I have it and we will need it for the first night

I'm only bringing the bare essentials for my family because I will have 2 kids and a dog in the back which doesn't leave room for much else. Wish I had a trailer to haul junk with, or a 4 door JK.

Hmm, 2PM might be a little optimistic for me as I'll have to work Friday. I could prolly swing a 4-5PM meet up in Sagle though. :/

My girlfriend has a GPS, but it's a pretty crappy Insignia one that isn't very trustworthy. Would prefer to meet and follow if possible.

Ted, you said that most if not all these trails are just gravel roads. Are we gonna be doing any actual wheeling, or is it just find a campsite and camp type thing?

Mitch, we can meet up in Spokane and you can follow me. I've got a nice Garmin that will get us there. What time do you get off work? It's mostly camping and trail rides, not much if any actual wheelin.

I technically get off work at 5, but could swing as early out as 2-3 I think. That would put me ready to leave Spokane by 3-4.

Wheeling (like Compressor) isn't necessary per se, as long as we get some great views in and some trail riding here and there.

Hey Ted you are correct Northern Idaho is awesome. Carolyn and I got into Sagel this morning from Portland about 11:00 then went out to check out the campsite. Just as you said well maintained gravel roads, grizzly country... you didn't mention the black bears or that we would have to watch out for the bull trout. Anyway check the picks at MobileMe Gallery We got back to about where you indicated the campsite would be but at MP-5 there was a fire that had recently started so we didn't stay long concerned might have trouble getting out if it picked up quickly. Local FD and folks weren't aware of it when we reported the fire. You might want to check with Forest Service to make sure they haven't closed that area about the time for your arrival. We have decided to make a big loop up to Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons, Jackson Hole and back to Portland leaving tomorrow after work. Sorry we won't run with you guys this time but looking forward to hooking up with you sometime in the future... cheers!

Hope you have a great time. We have changed the area we are going to so the fire will not affect us
