Ya, I live in Lechlade which on your map is about 8 miles north east of Swindon. About 70 some miles due west of London on the M4 motorway.
I do recommend coming this direction, but not to see me, to see the wonderful country side. They call this area over here The Cotswolds. It is very beautiful and there is so much to see. Tons of tiny villages to see that look very old and probably are. Kinda like the one I live in.
This is a quote from the cotswolds.org website.

Popular with both the English themselves and visitors from all over the world, the Cotswolds are well-known for gentle hillsides (‘wolds’), sleepy villages and for being so ‘typically English’.
Where are you planning on visiting while your over here?
Ohh and yes you have to sample the Guinness while your over here, and you definitely need to cut your son a slice too so he can go back to the states and brag to his friends. I heard this morning from one of the local firemen that the Guinness is even better in Ireland. You can get 2 tokens per person for free half pints if you do the tour at the Guinness brewery in Dublin and you get to pour the perfect pint.GUINNESS STOREHOUSE® | What?s Inside | Dublin Tourist Attractions, Ireland Tourist Attractions
I did get to sample the Guinness in Ireland while I was laid over in Shannon on my way back from Iraq but that was a few years ago.
Good luck and have fun. Lots of fun and congratulations to your son for getting in to East Carolina University.
